This morning, Pawnee officers responded to a check on the welfare call in the 700 block of 4th Street. The situation escalated after arrival, but it was resolved peacefully.

As a precaution, our School Resource Officer notified the school administration so students and staff could remain inside until it was resolved.

There is no threat to the community.

Thank you to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, Divernon Police Department, Pawnee Fire District, and the Illinois State Police for their assistance.

Not only did they extend the Heat Advisory, they have issued this EXTREME HEAT WARNING until Friday evening. This is a bit stronger/more severe than the advisory, so please take care during this weather!

Some people in the Pawnee area are potentially experiencing brownouts. This can be due to the strain on the power grid. The best way to help with this is to conserve energy due to the heat 🔥. Adjust your AC settings and avoid running certain appliances during peak demand times. For questions, please contact your power company.
