To clear up some confusion and echo Town Administrator Birkbeck’s announcement at the Select Board meeting Monday night, Chief Mark Savasta has retired. Chief Savasta served a distinguished career in law enforcement for 34 years. He became Chief of Police in 2018 and led this department with the utmost professionalism and dedication. We congratulate him on his well deserved retirement and wish him well in his next chapter. Lt. Thorpe has been appointed Acting Police Chief until a permanent Chief is selected.

New digital speed signs have been installed in the 30 mph zone on Pleasant St. in the center of town. Thanks to a grant from MA DOT, these signs come at no cost to the residents and help with speeding complaints in this area. Special thanks to Det. Keller and Acting Chief Thorpe for their technical ingenuity in installing them. What do you do when the only brackets available for them do not fit the poles? You make them fit!

“Blue Envelopes” are available in the lobby of the Public Safety Building. These envelopes sponsored by the Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association are for drivers on the Autism Spectrum to hand to officers on a traffic stop.
