🚒 You CAN volunteer—even when you have kids! ❤️

Being a volunteer firefighter doesn’t mean you have to choose between serving your community and being a parent. Sometimes, your kids become part of the experience, too! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

At our latest training, we worked on ropes and rope skills, learning different knots and techniques and how they can be used in different emergency situations. And while our firefighters trained, our little ones were right there with us watching, learning, and being part of the fire department family. 🪢🔥

Volunteering with the fire department is about more than responding to calls. It’s about learning, growing, serving your neighbors, and setting an example for the next generation.

You don’t have to wait until your kids are grown to make a difference. Bring them along. Let them see what community service looks like. Let them grow up knowing that helping others matters. ❤️

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering but wondered, “How could I do that with kids?” We’re here to tell you: you can.

•Your family can be part of the fire department family.
•Your time can make a difference.
•Your community needs you.

đźš’ Knowing the Building Can Save Your Life.

Yesterday, Payneville Fire Department hosted a training on building construction and while it may not be the most talked about part of firefighting, it is one of the most important things firefighters can understand.

When firefighters arrive at a structure fire, we’re not just fighting the fire, we’re fighting the building too. Knowing how a structure is built, what materials were used, how floors and roofs are supported, and how a building may behave under fire conditions can help firefighters recognize hazards, make better decisions, and know when conditions may be becoming unsafe.

Different types of construction can fail in very different ways when exposed to heat and fire. Understanding those differences can mean the difference between making a safe, informed decision and walking into a situation that can quickly turn deadly.

Training like this helps us stay prepared before the emergency happens. It gives us the knowledge to better protect ourselves, our fellow firefighters, and the people we serve.

đźš’ DID YOU KNOW? đźš’

Behind every fire department in Kentucky are firefighters who answer the call—whether they do it as their full-time career or volunteer their time to serve their community.

According to the Kentucky Fire Commission’s FY2025 Annual Report:

🔥 4,239 career firefighters
đźš’ 14,737 volunteer firefighters
👨‍🚒 18,976 firefighters total

That means nearly 78% of Kentucky’s firefighters are volunteers.

Volunteers give their time, their nights, their weekends, and sometimes even their sleep to protect their neighbors. They train, respond, work fundraisers, maintain equipment, and show up when their community needs them most.

To every career and volunteer firefighter across Kentucky: THANK YOU for answering the call. ❤️‍🔥

And to our own volunteers—we see you, we appreciate you, and we are proud to serve alongside you. 🚒❤️

Training That Saves Lives 🚒🔥

Our firefighters recently spent time sharpening their skills through ventilation and victim search & rescue training.

These hands-on exercises allow our crew to practice the critical skills needed when seconds matter-working together, navigating a structure, locating potential victims, and safely ventilating a building during a fire.

Training isn’t just about putting on the gear. It’s about being prepared to walk into the unknown when our community needs us most.

We’re proud of the dedication our volunteers continue to show by giving their time to train, learn, and improve. Every drill makes us better prepared to serve you!
