For anyone needing a warm, dry place to stay tonight we have opened up a shelter at the Middle School.

Parking is in the football stadium parking lot and check in is at the Middle School gym.

We are all working together and make sure we share one message.

Residents in areas affected by flooding are asked to shelter in place if it is safe to do so. Stay off the roads, avoid washes and low-water crossings, and never drive around barricades or enter floodwater.

Payson Fire Department is sharing these reminders from Gila County Emergency Management to help everyone enjoy a safe night:

🔦 BE SEEN: Use reflective tape or glow sticks, carry a flashlight, and choose costumes that fit well.

🚶 WALK SAFELY: Use sidewalks and crosswalks. Look both ways and keep phones down while crossing.

🚗 DRIVE ALERT: Slow down in neighborhoods and watch for children entering streets and driveways.

🍬 CHECK TREATS: Have an adult inspect treats before children dig in.

🏠 PREP YOUR HOME: Keep walkways clear and use battery-operated candles in your decorations.

From forested communities to rural neighborhoods, wildfire preparedness is a shared responsibility across Northern Gila County.

Gila County, including Payson is under a Tornado Watch. A Tornado Watch indicates that the conditions are right for a Tornado to develop. While tornados are not common in Arizona, but they do happen occasionally. Please read the attached information from the County of what to look for and do if you see a tornado.

🌪️ 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲: 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐨!

Tornadoes can develop quickly, and knowing how to respond can make all the difference in keeping yourself and your family safe.

If a tornado threatens your area, remember these important safety tips:

🏠 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 in a basement or small interior room on the lowest floor.

🪟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐬 and put as many walls as possible between yourself and the outdoors.

🛡️ 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐰 and protect your head and neck.

🚗 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐬, get to a sturdy shelter. Do not shelter under an overpass.

⚠️ 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞:
A 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 means conditions are favorable for tornadoes. A 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar, and you should take shelter immediately.
