BEHIND THE SCENES: THE TEAM THAT KEEPS US MOVING!
When an emergency happens, our firefighters and EMS personnel depend on their vehicles and equipment to get them where they need to be. But behind every response is a team of dedicated individuals working to ensure those vehicles are ready when the call comes in.
Today, we're recognizing the Fleet & Facilities team serving Reeves County ESD Nos. 1 & 2!
Pictured left to right:
🔧 Fleet & Facilities Specialist Jacobo Holguin
🔧 Fleet & Facilities Manager Stephen Henson
🔧 Fleet & Facilities Specialist Lucas Martinez
🔧 Fleet & Facilities Specialist Christopher Campos
Together, these four bring an impressive 35 years of combined fleet maintenance experience to the Districts.
From fire trucks and ambulances to quick response and support vehicles, this team is responsible for maintaining the entire fleet of both Districts, along with the facilities our personnel rely on every day.
And if you ask them what a typical day looks like, they'll tell you there isn't one! One moment, they may be performing routine preventative maintenance, and the next, they're transporting critical equipment and supplies, such as firefighting foam, to support an industrial fire.
It's that variety, and the opportunity to serve Reeves County while pursuing their passion for mechanics, that brought each of them to the Emergency Services Districts.
WHAT MAKES THEIR WORK REWARDING?
For Christopher and Lucas, it's the opportunity to continuously expand their knowledge and experience.
For Jacobo, it's being there for the crews when they need him.
"I feel like I'm a first responder for the crew. We are there when they need us, just as they are for the community when they are needed."
For Stephen, it's knowing that the team's efforts directly contribute to the Districts' ability to serve the public.
Seeing emergency vehicles respond to assist the community, knowing his team helped ensure those units were in excellent condition and response-ready, gives him a tremendous sense of purpose.
MORE THAN JUST TURNING WRENCHES
Working in emergency services has taught these four that maintaining emergency vehicles is about much more than mechanical knowledge.
Christopher has gained a greater understanding of emergency vehicle operations and how first responders actually work, discovering that real life is quite different from what you see on television.
Lucas has learned the importance of adapting quickly. Unlike other maintenance environments where you may focus on one project at a time, priorities in emergency services can change in an instant.
Stephen has developed an even greater appreciation for the importance of their work and how much both responders and the community depend on them.
And Jacobo? He's learned that the people you work alongside make all the difference. He describes his team as a group that works well together and has a great time doing it.
GETTING TO KNOW THE CREW
When they're not keeping the Districts moving, here's what you'll find them doing:
Christopher enjoys going to the gym, carpentry work, and playing video games.
Jacobo is restoring a 1968 Chevrolet C10 truck and enjoys spending time with friends. Apparently, turning wrenches at work just isn't enough!
Lucas enjoys spending time with family, relaxing, working out, and playing video games.
Stephen enjoys family time, tackling home improvement projects, and riding his motorcycle.
THEIR ADVICE TO FUTURE EMERGENCY VEHICLE TECHNICIANS
Their collective advice? Never stop learning, embrace new challenges, stay positive, and keep pushing forward when things get difficult.
Working in emergency services requires more than technical ability. It takes adaptability, teamwork, dedication, and a willingness to answer the call when others need you.
THE TEAM BEHIND THE RESPONSE
Perhaps what makes this group so special is their unwavering commitment to both Districts and the communities we serve.
Emergencies don't follow a schedule, and neither does the need to keep emergency vehicles operational. Whether it's during normal business hours, late at night, on weekends, or on holidays, these four have consistently demonstrated their willingness to step up whenever they're needed.
Their dedication to serving Reeves County extends well beyond the walls of the maintenance shop.
Our firefighters and EMS personnel may be the ones you see responding to emergencies, but Stephen, Jacobo, Lucas, and Christopher are among those making sure they can get there.
To our Fleet & Facilities team: Thank you for your hard work, your commitment to our personnel, and your dedication to the communities we proudly serve.
