OUTDOOR EQUITY FUND โ€“ BRINGING LEARNING OUTDOORS!

We have some exciting news! UPWA is a recipient of an Outdoor Equity Fund grant, and we can't wait to bring more hands-on environmental education to students at Pecos Schools!

Together with our wonderful partners at River Source, we'll be heading into the field with students this fall and again in the spring to explore the Pecos River, collect water quality data, and learn all things water! ๐Ÿ’ง

Students will have the opportunity to compare their findings across seasons, analyze their data, and prepare presentations to better understand the health of our river.

And we couldn't be more fortunate to work with the amazing teachers at Pecos Schools, who are just as excited as we are to get students outside and learning!

๐Ÿ“ธ We'll be sharing pictures and highlights from our field trips right here on social media, so stay tuned and follow along!

๐ŸŒฒPECOS AMBASSADORS โ€“ YOU ARE THE REAL MVPs!

As our Spring/Summer 2026 season comes to a close, we want to give a HUGE shoutout to our 19 incredible Pecos Ambassadors who spent the season caring for Pecos Canyon!

These dedicated volunteers did so much more than pick up trash. They helped ensure campfires were properly extinguished, served as a valuable connection between Canyon visitors and the U.S. Forest Service, and helped keep this beautiful place clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.

Their work made a tremendous difference, and we couldn't be more grateful for each and every one of them! ๐Ÿ’š

Our Pecos Ambassadors program continues to grow, and we'd love to welcome more community members into the group next year!

Interested in joining? Keep an eye on our social media pages for information about opportunities to become a Pecos Ambassador for the Spring/Summer 2027 season.

To our 19 amazing volunteers, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŒฒ

Roadless areas of the forest by their definition protect the forest. They also protect our watersheds that lie below or within. Please comment to keep the roadless rule intact. Today is the last day to comment.

COMMUNITY MEETING TONIGHT

Join UPWA and New Mexico Wild tonight at 5:30 PM for a community meeting about the proposed rescission of the Roadless Rule and what it could mean for the Upper Pecos Watershed.

Weโ€™ll talk about what the Roadless Rule does, what could change if it is rescinded, and why these protections matter here in the Pecos.
Most importantly, weโ€™ll help you write and submit your public comment during the meeting. Bring your questions, your concerns, and what you love about these forests, weโ€™ll help you turn that into a comment and submit it before you leave.
