IMPORTANT CORRECTION: We received clarification from Alabama Forestry Commission. This is a controlled burn for site preparation and NOT a wildfire. We apologize for the confusion.

You may have noticed some smoke in the Pelham area today. There is a 200-acre wildfire in South Shelby County near the Bibb County line. With winds out of the south today, the smoke is drifting our way.

๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! PELHAM FIREFIGHTERS ARE HOME!

Our four Pelham firefighters have returned home safely after answering the call to help communities along Alabamaโ€™s Gulf Coast following Hurricane Isaias!

This morning, members of Strike Team 111 were dispatched to Brewton, Alabama, where they helped clear fallen trees and debris from roads and around homes following the storm.

Thankfully, Alabamaโ€™s Gulf Coast was spared significant damage, and all deployed personnel are safe.

Our Pelham crew served alongside firefighters from across the state as part of a coordinated mutual aid effort, ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.

๐Ÿค Thatโ€™s what mutual aid is all about! When communities face emergencies, firefighters step up to help their neighbors, even when those neighbors are miles away.

Weโ€™re proud of our Pelham firefighters for representing our city so well, and weโ€™re grateful to all the first responders who participated in this mission.

These four members of the Pelham Fire Department hit the road this morning, headed to the Gulf Coast to help communities prepare for Hurricane Isaias.

Our firefighters are part of Strike Team 111, a 24-member emergency response team made up of personnel from six Alabama fire departments. The team is prepared to assist with fire suppression, emergency medical services, and other emergency response needs in areas affected by the storm.

๐Ÿ“ UPDATE: Fire Chief Mike Reid reports that our crew has safely arrived at the staging area in Atmore, Alabama, where they're getting settled in to ride out the storm. Once conditions are safe, they'll be ready to respond wherever help is needed.

๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ WHEN HELP IS NEEDED, PELHAM ANSWERS THE CALL!
Four Pelham firefighters and a fire engine are preparing to head to the Gulf Coast Friday morning, October 9, as part of a statewide effort to provide emergency response resources ahead of Hurricane Isaias.

Our firefighters are joining personnel from five other Alabama fire departments as part of Strike Team 111, a 24-member team prepared to provide fire suppression, emergency medical services, and other emergency response assistance in communities affected by the storm.

The deployment is coordinated through the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Consortium, which brings fire departments together to share resources and help communities during major emergencies.

๐Ÿค That's what mutual aid is all about. When emergencies happen here at home, neighboring departments are there to help us. And when other communities need a helping hand, we're proud to return that support.

We're proud of the men and women of the Pelham Fire Department and grateful for their willingness to serve wherever they're needed.

Please join us in wishing these firefighters and all the first responders deploying to the Gulf Coast a safe mission!

๐Ÿ”— Read more about the deployment at the link in the comments.
