🚒 Training Today for a Safer Tomorrow!

This past weekend, our members had the opportunity to train with the mobile burn trailer from the Alabama Fire College. This hands-on training allowed our firefighters to strengthen their skills, practice fireground operations, and gain valuable experience in a controlled environment.

We remain committed to providing our members with quality training to better serve and protect our community. We appreciate the Alabama Fire College for providing this valuable training opportunity and our members for their continued dedication to improving their skills.

Wattsville Fire Department is reminding our community to prepare for the incoming hurricane/tropical storm expected to impact our area tonight and into tomorrow.

Even as a storm weakens after moving inland, it can still bring heavy rainfall, flash flooding, strong winds, downed trees, power outages, and dangerous road conditions. We encourage everyone to take precautions now to protect themselves, their families, and their property.

⚠️ HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS:

🔹 Stay Informed: Monitor local weather forecasts, official alerts, and emergency notifications throughout the storm.

🔹 Prepare for Power Outages: Charge cell phones and backup batteries. Have flashlights, extra batteries, and necessary supplies readily available.

🔹 Secure Outdoor Items: Bring in or secure patio furniture, trash cans, decorations, and other items that could become dangerous in high winds.

🔹 Avoid Flooded Roadways: Never drive through flooded roads. Remember: TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN! Water can be deeper and faster-moving than it appears.

🔹 Stay Away from Downed Power Lines: Assume all downed lines are energized. Keep your distance and report them to the appropriate utility or emergency services.

🔹 Use Generators Safely: Never operate a generator inside your home, garage, or any enclosed area. Keep it outdoors, away from doors, windows, and vents, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Our members are preparing for the potential impacts of this storm and encourage everyone to take these conditions seriously. Please check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need assistance preparing.

Stay weather-aware, stay prepared, and most importantly, stay safe!

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.
