Today is an exciting day for SMFT as crews place the new Medic 84 into service, operating out of Lapel!

We’re thankful to have a community, administration, and board that are committed to providing our crews with the equipment and apparatus needed to better serve the South Madison community.

This month our crews focused on man vs. machine training.

This training prepares our firefighters to safely rescue people who are trapped, entangled, or impaled in industrial, agricultural, or everyday machinery.

Our department recently had the opportunity to put some of our members through two valuable training programs this past week: Rope Rescue Class and Driver/Operator Class

One of the biggest accomplishments from these trainings is that with the completion of the ropes class, every one of our full-time employees is now trained as a Rope Rescue Technician. This is a tremendous milestone for our department.

Thank you to our members for continuing to better themselves and this department.

UPDATE:
Outfitters is at their capacity and no longer taking clothing donations. Thank you everyone!

Attention:

With all the donations happening around town, we have established TWO collections points for donations for residents that have been evacuated from their homes.

We will only be accepting the following items at the below locations:
Non-perishable food items
Water
Cleaning supplies
Heavy duty trash bags

Location 1:
Station 81- 100 S Broadway, Pendleton, IN

Location 2:
Solid Rock Church- 6509 SR-67, Pendleton, IN

Both locations will be accepting donations from 9-3.
People in need can also pick up items from 9-3.

Outfitters here in town is still accepting clothing donations. However, they still ask the clothes be washed before donating.

Finally, we greatly appreciate all the food donations to our fire fighters, however at this time we are overrun with more food than we can eat. We ask that you donate them to places and families that need them!

Since Wednesday night, our crews have been working around the clock, responding to countless calls for evacuations and rescues—not only throughout the South Madison community, but also in surrounding areas impacted by the flooding.

In the midst of such a challenging situation, one of the true silver linings has been witnessing the incredible way our community has come together. Neighbors helping neighbors, community members bringing food, drinks, and care packages to the station, and countless others stepping up to help those in need. And of course our women’s auxiliary team providing countless resources. The strength, compassion, and resilience of our community has been nothing short of inspiring.

We also want to recognize and sincerely thank our outstanding mutual-aid partners, including Fishers Fire Department, East Madison Fire Territory, Anderson Fire Department, and the many other agencies who have answered the call and worked alongside us throughout this response.

This is what community is all about. We are proud to serve alongside so many dedicated people and grateful for everyone who has supported our crews and our community during this difficult time.
