The Umatilla National Forest has completed repairs on Forest Service Road (FSR) 47 and continues flood recovery work on FSR 32 and 54. These projects build on repairs completed after the 2020 floods and recent emergency work.
As new repair projects begin, the Forest will share updates on temporary closures, timelines, and progress. Stay informed by checking our website, following our social media channels, or stopping by any Ranger District office. Signs will be posted near all project sites.
This summer, the Pomeroy Ranger District, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration and Columbia County Public Works, completed multiple road and bridge repairs in the Tucannon River Drainage, including flood related washout repairs, work on FSR 4712, replacement of the Little Tucannon Bridge, and chip sealing eight miles of FSR 47.
On the Walla Walla Ranger District, repairs resumed last week on a nine mile stretch of FSR 32 after a pause due to the Hagen Fire. Work will continue with a goal of restoring access to Ruckel Junction by 2027.
The North Fork John Day Ranger District plans to begin work on a four mile damaged section of FSR 54 in 2027, building on earlier initial repairs to restore access.
Additionally, road repairs from this summer’s fires will continue into fall and into 2027.
