It's always a good time to unbox new books!

10/20/2026

Mwa ha haaa! Look who got their latest shipment of fiction, nonfiction, and build-your-own-book-club books!

Can't say the clerks that will be processing them are as excited as the rest of us, but we all agreed the new-book smell of this haul was quite exceptional. These will be trickling out to the shelves over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled and/or place a hold on a title you want online at the Monroe County Library System website.

If so, nice job - you get an internet gold star!🌟It will go nicely with your "I voted" sticker.🗳

If not, there's still time. Visit your county's Board of Elections website to find this and lots of other valuable info.

Exciting news, folks: we get to host another special author visit on November 7 at 2 PM - this one for kids!

We're pleased to host cartoonist Shauna J. Grant as she shares about her work on the Mimi graphic novel series as well as some of the Baby-Sitters Little Sister graphic novels and answers questions. Each child in attendance will receive a free copy of one of her books and have a chance to get it signed!

This program is geared toward children in grades K-5, but older kids are welcome. Due to room capacity, seating priority will be given to children; adults may be asked to wait in the library or stand as space allows.

Register your child here: https://calendar.libraryweb.org/event/17740296

Thank you to Senator Samra Brouk and Friends of the Penfield Public Library for sponsoring this event!

Libby and Kanopy users, in case you missed the news, the Monroe County Library System is adding an additional measure to help protect patron information and bolster system security.

✨✨✨What this means for users: beginning this Thursday, October 15, you will need both your library card number and account password when authenticating your library card in OverDrive/Libby/Kanopy. Don't know your password? It's the last name on your account.✨✨✨

Already signed in to Libby? You may not need to do anything right away, but you'll need your password the next time Libby asks you to verify your library card. We recommend reviewing your information now so you can keep borrowing ebooks and audiobooks without interruption.

Not familiar with Libby or Kanopy? Libby is a library reading app developed by OverDrive that lets you check out ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines (Penfield residents) with your MCLS card. You can also add other library system cards (e.g., New York Public Library, Buffalo Erie County Public Library, etc.) to Libby to expand your borrowing options.

Kanopy is available to Penfield residents through PPL - it's a streaming service that lets you enjoy critically-acclaimed movies, inspiring documentaries, award-winning foreign films and more!

Nothing like getting the full Sparky experience!🚒

Penfield, NY Fire Company

10/12/2026

Thanks to a crew from the Penfield, NY Fire Company and their trusty fire dog, Sparky, families got to brush up on their fire safety this morning!

After we went over what to do in an emergency and discovering just HOW HEAVY a firefighter's gear is, Sparky's fire truck let us hear what smoke detector alarms and sirens sound like before that darn dalmatian cranked up the radio music and spritzed us all with his truck's fire hose!😆

Afterward, we had a pack of tiny honorary firefighters exploring the fire truck parked outside...before it had to leave to respond to a call.🚒

Busy morning!

We can't wait! It's going to be such an amazing evening!
