Thank you to Governor Ron DeSantis for visiting Escambia County today to provide Hurricane Isaias recovery effort updates, including the announcement of temporary sheltering and first responder assistance for Hurricane Isaias survivors. Gov. DeSantis held a press conference at the Salvation Army Multi-Agency Resource Center on Q Street, joined by local elected officials including District 4 Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger, Rep. Michelle Salzman, Escambia County Sheriff Chip W. Simmons, and Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson.

Through a partnership between Emergency RV and the Florida Division of Emergency Management, temporary shelter trailers are being provided to eligible residents displaced by significant damage from Hurricane Isaias. The Governor also announced one-time $5,000 grants for eight first responders in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties who were personally affected by the storm while continuing to serve their communities.

FEMA update: Florida has requested a Major Disaster Declaration that includes Public Assistance for 15 counties and Individual Assistance for eligible residents in eight counties. Escambia County is included in the request for both Public and Individual Assistance. The state is awaiting a federal decision. If approved, the declaration would make additional federal recovery assistance available to eligible communities and residents.

🚛County crews are continuing to work hard throughout Escambia County to collect debris and get our community cleaned up after Hurricane Isaias! Here are just a few of our hardworking staff collecting debris on Pensacola Beach. Please stay tuned for more updates and information as we move forward with debris collection.

🗑️Sorting hurricane debris this weekend? Make sure you’re following all of the rules to help ensure your debris can be collected!
🚫Remember, DO NOT BAG DEBRIS.
✅Sort debris into two categories:
🌳Vegetative debris: Whole trees, tree stumps, tree branches, tree trunks and other leafy material.
🏚️Construction and demolition debris: Damaged components of buildings and structures such lumber and wood, wall board, glass, metal, roofing materials, tile, furnishings and fixtures.

Additional guidelines:
• Place debris on the public right-of-way.
• Do not stack debris below low-hanging power or utility lines.
• Residential only. No commercial debris.

Do not place debris within 4 feet of:
• Mailboxes
• Water meters
• Fire hydrants or any other above-ground utility

We appreciate your patience, as debris collection will take time due to the magnitude of the storm damage and debris.
