City of Pensacola crews are fully activated for Tropical Storm Isaias’ landfall and are completing preparations to reduce flooding, minimize damage to city facilities, secure active construction sites, and remove outdoor hazards.

Here are a few specific things that we've done:

➡Lowered water levels in ponds, reinspected storm sewers and cleared debris.
➡Removed roadside debris, along with construction and demolition debris.
➡Notified parents and seniors at our community centers about the weather event and will follow the Escambia County School District’s lead regarding closures -- Superintendent Keith Leonard has announced that schools and district offices will be closed on Friday, Oct. 9.
➡ Inspected and prepared equipment and heavy machinery.

From the US National Weather Service Mobile Alabama: 7am 10/07 Tropical Update - It is looking more likely that Isaias will be a SIGNIFICANT hurricane when it reaches the coast.

**Please read this entire post before asking questions, as we will try to break this down as much as possible.**

OVERVIEW - Tropical Storm Isaias strengthened as it moved east-northeast across the southwestern Gulf overnight. The big changes are that the forecast now has an increased speed at landfall, slight eastward shift in the track, and the intensity at landfall increased. Isaias is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane and turn north, making landfall somewhere along the northern Gulf Coast late this week. Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches will likely be issued later today.

IMPACTS - Increasing concern for significant impacts to the local area, including high winds, high surf, rip currents, storm surge, flash flooding, and tornadoes.

🌧️ Regardless of the strength at landfall, heavy rainfall remains a concern, especially along the coast after last weekend’s heavy rainfall/flash flooding.

🌊 HIGH RISK of rip currents continues through the weekend for coastal Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. Surf builds Friday morning with the potential for 10+ foot breakers late Friday afternoon through Saturday mid-morning. Surf relaxes overnight Saturday into Sunday.

🌪️ Increasing risk for tornadoes Friday into early Saturday morning to the north and east of where the center of Isaias tracks (within any heavier rain bands).

PREPARE NOW - Double-check the supplies in your preparedness kit. Fill up your vehicle with gas (or charge it). Check in with neighbors. Limit damage caused by high winds by removing any debris from your yard and trimming tree branches. Clear clogged rain gutters and storm drains to help with the flow of heavy rain. And take down your outdoor Halloween decorations so they don't wind up in your neighbor's yard. Be Prepared, Not Scared. The more you can do to prepare now, the less stressed you will be later this week.

OUTDATED INFO - Please see our page for the latest storm updates

Original post: 🌀 NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center has now designated the disturbance in the southwestern Gulf as Tropical Depression Nine. This system is expected to strengthen drifting east, making an eventual turn to the north towards the northern Gulf Coast late this week into the weekend.

Local impacts from the storm may include high winds and surf, rip currents, and heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding. Residents are encouraged to monitor the forecast and have multiple ways to receive weather updates.
