FLOCK ALERT AND FAST OFFICER RESPONSE HELP PROTECT PEOTONE BUSINESS
At approximately 3:06 a.m. on Friday, August 28, the Peotone Police Department received a Flock Safety camera alert for a vehicle believed to have been involved in a serious incident minutes earlier at the Thornton’s on Monee-Manhattan Road.
According to information provided by the Monee Police Department, masked and gloved offenders carrying sledgehammers entered the business while it was open and targeted the gaming machines. The suspected vehicle—a slate-gray sports car—was then detected traveling through Peotone by our Flock camera system.
A Peotone Officer immediately responded and located the vehicle pulling into the Peotone Travel Center. The vehicle had stopped directly outside the building’s south entrance. As the Officer arrived, the driver began leaving the area, traveled through the parking lot and gas pumps, and fled northbound on Interstate 57 at a high rate of speed before a traffic stop could be initiated.
Based on the vehicle’s actions, its suspected connection to the Monee incident, and its location immediately outside the business, we believe the Flock alert and Officer's rapid response likely disrupted or prevented another burglary, robbery, or potentially more serious crime from occurring here in Peotone.
This incident is an excellent example of how technology, intelligence sharing between police agencies, and alert officers working together can protect our residents and businesses. The Flock cameras alerted our department that the suspected vehicle had entered Peotone, but it was the Officers vigilance, quick decision-making, and immediate response that placed them at the right location at the right time.
We commend our Officer for his outstanding police work and continued commitment to protecting the Village of Peotone.
The vehicle has reportedly been associated with other gaming-related crimes in the suburban area. The investigation is continuing, and the Peotone Police Department will continue working with other law-enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.
