Earlier today, the Pepin Police Department was made aware of a reported threat involving the Pepin Area School District.
Out of an abundance of caution, the school was evacuated while law enforcement officers responded and conducted a thorough search of the school buildings and grounds. All school buildings and property within our jurisdiction were searched and cleared by law enforcement.
Today was a scheduled teacher inservice day, resulting in a limited number of students and visitors being present in the building or in the vicinity of the school at the time of the incident. We are aware that other school districts in our county and statewide have received similar threats. This incident remains under further investigation.
We ask the public to avoid spreading unverified information or rumors and to rely on official information from law enforcement and the school district. The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of everyone involved.
I would like to extend a thank you to the Pepin County Sheriff's Office, Buffalo County Wisconsin Sheriff's Office and Wisconsin State Patrol for there assistance in this matter.
The homecoming dance for tonight has been cancelled. The football game vs. Augusta will go on as scheduled.
