As Mississippi prepares for the potential impacts of Hurricane Isaias, I want to make sure folks along the Gulf Coast are aware of a resource available to help them get to safety.

Uber is offering free round-trip rides, up to $40 each way, to and from state-approved evacuation shelters.

To take advantage of this offer:

1. Open the Uber app and select Account → Wallet.
2. Under Promotions, select “Add Promo Code.”
3. Enter code ISAIAS26 before requesting your ride.
4. Request a ride to a state-approved evacuation shelter.

Find shelter locations here: https://www.msema.org/get-assistance/disaster-resources/shelters-and-safe-rooms

Please share this information with anyone who may need assistance evacuating. Stay safe, stay informed, and follow guidance from local emergency management officials.

We are closely monitoring the track of Hurricane Isaias. Continue to follow MEMA, the National Hurricane Center and your local metorologist for the latest information.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak at the MPSC Coastal Hurricane Preparedness Summit about “The Federal Front Line: Securing Resources for Mississippi’s Coast.”

From securing long-awaited FEMA funding for hurricane recovery projects to working to reform FEMA and cut unnecessary red tape, my priority is making sure South Mississippi has the resources it needs to prepare, respond, and rebuild.

With a hurricane in the Gulf, this summit was a timely reminder that preparedness matters. When disaster strikes, our local leaders and first responders are on the front lines, and Washington should be a partner, not an obstacle, in recovery.

Last weekend, I was proud to host our U.S. Service Academy Day for high school students interested in serving our nation.

Students and their families had the opportunity to learn more about each of our nation’s service academies, the admissions and nomination processes, and what it takes to pursue a future in military service.

Thank you to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) for opening their doors, to the academy representatives who joined us, and to all the students who took the time to explore these incredible opportunities. It’s always encouraging to see the next generation of leaders eager to serve our country!

I enjoyed joining Mississippi Export Railroad and Federal Railroad Administration Administrator Fink in Moss Point yesterday to discuss the importance of rail infrastructure, economic growth, and safety.

Mississippi Export Railroad plays a vital role in connecting our businesses and industries to markets across the country, while supporting jobs and economic development along the Gulf Coast.

As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’ll continue working to strengthen our transportation network, support our rail industry, and keep South Mississippi moving forward.

Thank you to Mississippi Export Railroad for hosting this important discussion!

As Tropical Storm Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast, I encourage everyone in South Mississippi to stay alert, make necessary preparations, and closely monitor updates from MEMA and other local officials.

While the storm’s track may shift, we know how quickly conditions can change. Please take this storm seriously, stay informed, and put the safety of your family and neighbors first.

Recovering from a natural disaster is hard enough without unnecessary hurdles from the federal government.

Earlier this week, the bipartisan Post-Disaster Protection Act just advanced out of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The bill would give disaster survivors and communities 90 days to appeal a FEMA assistance decision instead of 60—the same amount of time FEMA has to review an appeal.

South Mississippi knows firsthand the challenges that come with disaster recovery. This is a commonsense change to give families and communities more time to navigate the process and make their case.

I’m glad to see it moving forward, and I’ll keep working to get it across the finish line.

I appreciated the opportunity to sit down with enlisted members of the Coast Guard for a firsthand look at what a day in their service looks like and the missions they carry out every day.

As Chairman of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee, hearing directly from the men and women on the front lines is critical to understanding the challenges they face and ensuring they have the resources and support they need.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their experiences. I’ll continue working in Congress to support the men and women of the Coast Guard and the important work they do for our nation.

Big win for the Mississippi Gulf Coast!

My Marine Fisheries Habitat Protection Act just passed the House Natural Resources Committee with bipartisan support.

This bill strengthens the Rigs to Reefs process, helping turn eligible retired offshore structures into valuable marine habitat while maintaining important safeguards for navigation, safety, and our environment.

Healthy fisheries mean a stronger Gulf Coast, more opportunities for our fishermen, and continued support for the coastal communities that depend on them. Proud to see this commonsense bill moving forward!

Access to quality health care shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code.

More than $104 million is being invested in rural health care across Mississippi to help modernize facilities, expand telehealth and specialty services, and give providers more tools to serve their patients.

I’m proud to see these resources coming home to Mississippi and helping ensure families can get the high-quality care they need closer to home.

Gov. Tate Reeves announced 167 awards totaling over $104 million through the Mississippi Rural Health Transformation Program to modernize and improve healthcare access in rural communities.

It was an honor to join St. Joseph Hospice in Gulfport this evening for their 9/11 Memorial as we mark 25 years since the attacks that forever changed our nation.

As we reflected on that September morning, we honored the lives taken too soon and the extraordinary courage shown by first responders, service members, and everyday Americans in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

May we never forget the lives lost that day, the heroes who emerged, and the unity and strength that brought our nation together. God bless America. 🇺🇸
