🌾 Taylor County 4-H Agriculture Day! 🐄

Taylor County 4-H welcomed all of Taylor County’s fifth-grade students for our annual Agriculture Day! Students rotated through 10 hands-on learning stations, giving them the opportunity to explore agriculture, wildlife, and natural resources while learning from local experts and community volunteers.

Our stations covered a variety of topics, including:

🐟 Freshwater Species– Katie, UF/IFAS
🐢 Gopher Tortoise Education– Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)
🦀 Horseshoe Crab Education – Victor Blanco, Taylor County Marine Agent
🤠 Cow Whip Demonstration – Rocky Anderson
🐝 Apiary Education – Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS)
🌼 Pollinator Education & Pollinator Hotels – Lisa Strange, Agriculture Agent, and her team of Master Gardeners
🐐 Goat Education – Jessica Grubbs and the Taylor County FFA chapter
🐴 Horse Education – Ginger Jacobs, 4-H Renegades Club Leader
🐄 Beef Education – 4-H volunteers Ayla Harris and Rachael Padgett, along with the Taylor County Farm Bureau
🌳 Forest Capital Museum and State Park – Exploring Florida’s forestry heritage and natural resources

🌭 A special thank-you to Jim Penn and Chris Cooksey for preparing the grilled hot dogs for lunch!

We are grateful to all our presenters, volunteers, and community partners who shared their time and knowledge to make this day possible. Hands-on experiences like these help students connect what they learn in the classroom to the world around them and better understand the important role agriculture plays in our everyday lives.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Agriculture Day a fun and educational experience for Taylor County’s fifth graders! 💚🌱

🎃📚 Our 4-H Cloverbud Club had a special visit yesterday from Mrs. Pegg with the Taylor County Public Library! Youth enjoyed a Draw and Tale and Cotton Tale activity, along with a seasonal reading of Pumpkin Jack. Thank you, Mrs. Pegg, for sharing your love of reading and creativity with our Cloverbuds! 💚🍀

Culinary Club met yesterday and got hands-on in the kitchen learning how to prepare a homemade stir-fry! 🍜🥢 From prepping ingredients to bringing it all together, our members had fun learning new skills and, of course, enjoying what they made!
