Perrysburg Township Fire assisted Toledo Fire & Rescue Wednesday morning during their hazmat incident in North Toledo. Deputy Chief Rodriguez and Bill Crosser responded with drone 74 (DJI Matrice 350 RTK). Utilizing the thermal imaging camera, crews were able to monitor conditions and survey the area for exposure hazards and other potential threats. This is also the first time PTFD was able to use some of our new equipment that was obtained through a grant from Energy Transfer. In that grant a video monitor was purchased allowing command a better viewing option during the drones recon mission. You can see that monitor in the first picture resting on the tailgate of the truck. For any updates on this hazmat incident go to your choice of local news outlets.

For over two decades Perrysburg Township Fire has been staffed by full-time firefighters. In 2002 the members became a part of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) recognized as Local 4170. Originally each shift was assigned five FF’s (A,B,C) for a total of 15, along with a fire inspector. A few weeks ago pet oxygen masks were donated to Perrysburg Township Fire and EMS by Invisible Fence as part of “Project Breathe”.

Invisible Fence Brand also donated kits to Perrysburg Fire.

“Your Safety, Our Concern”

A message from Invisible fence:

This donation includes the latest generation of Project Breathe™ kits, featuring PureVent® pet oxygen masks from Pawprint Oxygen, widely regarded as the gold standard in pet oxygen delivery.

Each kit includes small, medium, and large masks to fit pets ranging from cats to large-breed dogs, plus oxygen tubing compatible with equipment carried on fire trucks and ambulances. The patented tri-vent design reduces carbon dioxide rebreathing by up to 80% compared with standard masks, while the “no-pull” snout opening enables faster, easier use in high-stress situations.

Perrysburg Fire Division and Perrysburg To wnship Fire & EMS are now equipped with 11 of these kits, ready to deploy the moment they are needed.

What This Means for Perrysburg -

For Perrysburg residents, this donation means local first responders now have the tools to treat pets as the family members they are during one of the most dangerous moments a household can face. It’s a small piece of equipment with an outsized impact, one that can mean the difference between life and death for a pet caught in a home fire. “This is what Project Breathe™ is all about — Invisible Fence of Northwest Ohio showing up for Perrysburg Fire Division and Perrysburg Township Fire & EMS and this community. Pet owners trust us
every day to keep their animals safe, and Project Breathe™ extends that promise to the moments that matter most, making sure that the next time there’s a house fire, first responders have what they need to bring a pet home safely. That’s the mission, and we couldn’t be prouder to see it in action.”
— John Butrim, Executive General Manager, Invisible Fence® Brand

A little before 10:30 on the morning of Wednesday, September 30, Perrysburg Township Fire was dispatched Tracy Creek Apartments for a fire alarm. Crews heard and located a water flow alarm, made entry into the apartment and a heavy wall of smoke met the firefighters at the door. The fire was located and quickly extinguished. Assisting PTFD on the fire was Rossford, Lake Township, and Northwood. There were no injuries to any residents or firefighters.

There were working smoke detectors in the home and this is a reminder to check yours to make sure you and your family is prepared.
