🌌 OCTOBER 2026 SKY EVENTS — GET READY

Nine sky events are lined up for October, so mark your calendar now.

📅 Oct 3–5: Moon near Mars in the pre-dawn sky
🪐 Oct 4: Saturn at opposition, its closest and brightest of 2026
🚀 Oct 4–10: World Space Week
🌙 Oct 6: The Moon passes in front of Jupiter before dawn
☄️ Oct 8–9: Draconid meteor shower, best in the evening
🌑 Oct 10: New Moon, the darkest skies for the Milky Way
🔭 Oct 11: Mars passes through the Beehive Cluster
☄️ Oct 21: Orionid meteor shower, best before dawn
🌕 Oct 26: Hunter's Moon

Most of these can be seen with the naked eye. Binoculars help with the Beehive Cluster, and a telescope shows Saturn's rings. The Jupiter occultation is visible from most of North America except the far West. Elsewhere, Jupiter simply appears close to the Moon.

*** FLOOD SURVIVOR INFORMATION ***

Wayne County is establishing a Long-Term Recovery Group to assist flood survivors. We are grateful that many have already been helped and received funding from one or more sources.

To determine how many residents still need assistance, volunteers will be calling 211 registrants on Friday, September 25th and the week of September 28th, between 9:00a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

We will be calling from 765-312-4699. Volunteers will identify themselves by name, and state that they are from the Long-Term Recovery Group. We will never ask flood survivors for bank account numbers, social security numbers, or other personal identifying information.

Please share this message broadly with anyone who has been impacted by the disaster and encourage them to “answer the call” to ensure everyone who has been impacted gets help.
