Today, Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch Executive Director Doug Bernabei was honored to be asked to participate in a special 9/11 remembrance ceremony at SOAR (formerly Circuit Breaker) and ROE 35 Academy in Peru, alongside other area first responders.

The ceremony included the raising of the American flag in honor and remembrance of the first responders, victims, and all those who gave their lives on September 11, 2001, during the attacks on America as well as an extraordinary bagpipes performance of Amazing Grace by LaSalle Chief of Police Jason Stubler.

It was a moving and meaningful experience, and Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch was truly honored to have been invited to participate in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Not every crisis requires police, fire or an ambulance. Sometimes, what someone needs most is a trained person to talk to.

9-8-8 is the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7 for people experiencing a mental health, su***de or substance-use crisis — or for someone concerned about a loved one.

📱 Call or text 9-8-8 when you or someone you know needs crisis support.

🚨 Call 9-1-1 when there is an immediate threat to life or safety or emergency assistance is needed.

Knowing which number to call can help connect someone with the right help at the right time.

This Su***de Prevention Month, IVRD encourages you to remember three numbers that could make a difference:

9-8-8.

Help First Responders Find You!

Did you know there’s a simple app that can help first responders locate you faster in an emergency?

📱 What3Words divides the entire world into 3-meter squares and gives each location its own unique combination of three words. This can be especially helpful at Starved Rock State Park, where trails, canyons, overlooks, and wooded areas can make it difficult to describe exactly where you are.

If you’re hiking, exploring, or enjoying our state park, consider downloading the What3Words app before you go.

In an emergency:
• Open What3Words
• Find your current 3-word location
• Provide it to 911/dispatch
• Share any additional information you can, such as the trail you’re on or a nearby landmark.

Data show that 44% of all fatal motorcycle crashes happen between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. — during the heavy evening commute and sunset hours.

Riders:

🏍️ Avoid traveling in a vehicle’s blind spots.

Drivers:

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Illinois, Indiana and Iowa until 1 PM CDT.

Here we go again… Yet another round of severe storms is likely today. A line of storms is expected to move through the area from west to east between mid-morning and mid-afternoon and will likely produce swaths of damaging winds across some locations.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to occur in the area today. There remains a potential for an intense line of storms to develop and produce destructive winds. Other storms may also produce damaging winds, brief tornadoes, and hail, and there is also a potential for flash flooding, so remain weather aware today!

We’re proud of our IVRD team for the outstanding job they did during last night’s commercial fire. From the first call to the final unit clearing, our telecommunicators were there supporting responders every step of the way. Great work by everyone involved.
