Our principal, Mrs. Jennifer Goldman, doesn’t just lead our school—she gets out there and has fun with our Panthers, too! 🐾 We’re thankful for a principal who makes connections with our students.

Sixth-graders have been putting their critical thinking and investigative skills to work this week!

First, they tackled the case of Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow, examining clues, analyzing information, and determining which evidence best supported their conclusions. They quickly discovered that not all evidence is the best evidence.

Next, they became ecosystem investigators, working through symbiotic relationship cases to determine how organisms interact. They examined evidence to identify examples of mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism while defending their thinking.

Both investigations gave students opportunities to strengthen their CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) skills. Our sixth-graders are learning that making a claim is only the beginning. They must select the strongest, most relevant evidence and clearly explain how that evidence supports their conclusions.

Through this process, they have learned that science isn’t just about getting the right answer. It’s about understanding why an answer makes sense and being able to prove it!

🎉🎂 Happy 50th Birthday, Petal School District! ❤️🖤

Our students have been learning about Petal’s history over the past 50 years and are looking toward the next 50! ✉️ They’re writing letters to future students that will be placed in a time capsule on campus and buried for 50 years. The capsule will be opened in 2076! 🕰️

What an exciting way to celebrate our past while leaving a little piece of today for the Panthers of tomorrow! 🐾❤️🖤

Sixth grade students have been learning about the ecosystem and the food chains and webs that make them. Today, they became the food web. Each of them were given an organism from the African savanna, and they had to build a food web based on that. Then, we had an ecosystem emergency! A disease struck our lion population, and we observed what would happen if the entire lion population was wiped out. Spoiler alert! The entire food web would collapse.
