Central State Hospital, originally known as the Central Lunatic Asylum, is a psychiatric facility in Petersburg, Virginia. It was the first psychiatric hospital in the country for "colored persons of unsound mind." It serves the greater Richmond region of Virginia for civil and lower-risk forensic admissions, and its maximum security unit serves the entire Commonwealth for higher-risk forensic admissions. Central State Hospital is always seeking high-quality prospective employees dedicated to facilitating recovery from mental illness and implementing trauma-informed approaches to treatment. Central States first ever Competency Carnival was a success! Almost 300 nursing and security staff members got a chance to test themselves on various aspects of their job duties at this year’s competency carnival. Thank you to everyone who came out and participated and the CSH staff members who assisted with the training. Special thanks to VCBR, ESH, HDMC and Central Office for sending staff to assist with training as well!

Central State Leadership had a meeting last week with the Friends of Central State non-profit group to get reintroduced to our current leadership team and discuss how our organizations can work best together. Friends of Central State's focus on the preservation of our hospitals long history and community engagement was great to learn more about as we move forward and grow as an organization.
