It’s Time to Check Your Mailbox!!

With winter on its way, our crews are inspecting and preparing vehicles for snow plowing. Occasionally, the weight of snow coming off a plow can damage a mailbox, or a mailbox may be struck while plowing along the curb line. To help reduce the risk of damage, it is important for residents to conduct an annual mailbox check-up and perform routine maintenance before snowfall begins. Over time, ground settling and shifting can cause mailboxes to sink, tip forward, or weaken, making them unable to withstand the force of snow being pushed against them.

Please check the condition of your mailbox and support post to ensure it is sturdy and properly installed. Residents are also reminded to clear snow from around their mailbox after each snowfall. The Department of Public Works appreciates your patience and understanding during our cold, snowy Wisconsin winters.

Fall Hydrant Flushing – September 21 to October 23

Fall hydrant flushing will take place on weekdays from September 21 through October 23, between 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The City flushes all hydrants twice a year, in spring and fall. This routine maintenance is performed to check the proper operation of the hydrants and verify adequate water pressure and flow. Flushing also removes sediment from the water distribution system to help maintain water clarity and water quality.

Please note that temporary water discoloration may occur during flushing. This is normal, and your water remains safe to drink during and after flushing. If discoloration occurs, run your cold-water tap for a few minutes until the water clears. To prevent staining, avoid doing laundry during scheduled flushing times.
