🌱📚💧 Gardening, Reading & Sustainability in Action! 💧📚🌱
Last week, Ms. Muñoz' 2nd Grade Titans took reading beyond the classroom with A Green Kid’s Guide to Watering Plants by Richard Lay.
After an outdoor read-aloud, students put their learning into practice in our raised garden beds. They learned a simple way a “Green Gardener” can determine whether plants need water: squeeze the soil and try to make a ball! If it holds together, the soil has enough moisture. If it falls apart, it may be time to water. 🌎💧
The reactions when students successfully made their soil balls were priceless! More importantly, they were connecting reading, observation, science, conservation, and responsible gardening through an authentic hands-on experience.
Activities like this also help our students understand the importance of using water responsibly, caring for the land, growing food sustainably, and protecting our environment—connecting their learning to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Zero Hunger, Quality Education, Clean Water, Responsible Consumption, Climate Action, and Life on Land. 🌱🌎
When students can read it, experience it, and apply it, learning truly grows! 💚
🌱📚💧 ¡Jardinería, Lectura y Sostenibilidad en Acción! 💧📚🌱
