Thank you to my brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. PhillyNuSigma_1922 for allowing me to join you for your October meeting to share some of the important work happening across our city.

A special shoutout to your newly elected President, Bro. Angelo Sexton Jr., and the entire Executive Board for your leadership and warm welcome and to your Immediate Past President, my husband, David Richardson.

I am always grateful for the many ways my brothers of PhillyNuSigma_1922 continue to support me, and how they show up and serve our communities. 💙

Thank you to the incredible community advocates who stood alongside me today as we announced the to***co zoning legislation I will be introducing tomorrow in Philadelphia City Council

This legislation would not be possible without the support, partnership, and advocacy of the residents and community organizations who have worked with my office to address nuisance businesses.

A special thank you to the Wynnefield Residents Association, Fox Chase Town Watch, Brewerytown Sharswood Community Civic Association, Queen Village Neighbors Association, Lower North CDC, Strawberry Mansion Community Concern, Solace Pharmacy Philly, Lawncrest Community Association, Park to Broad District, and Frankford CDC.

I am incredibly grateful for your partnership and continued dedication to our communities!

Crystal Morris, President of the Wynnefield Residents Association, said it best…

We want communities where we can all thrive, and that includes having responsible business owners along our commercial corridors who respect our neighborhoods, prioritize the well-being of residents, especially our young people and contribute positively to our communities.

That should be a goal we all share.

Philly. You asked. We answered.

While the Commonwealth has limited our ability to regulate to***co sales, we DO have authority over zoning, and we intend to use it.

Tomorrow in Philadelphia City Council I am introducing legislation to update our Zoning Code, establishing a specific definition for to***co retailers and requiring setbacks from sensitive locations like schools, playgrounds, and daycares.

This legislation marks the biggest attempt at regulating to***co sales in Philadelphia in years.

For too long, we have heard from residents who are tired of seeing smoke shops pop up in their neighborhoods, especially near places where our children learn and play.

Our communities have spoken, and we are taking action.

Big kudos to my colleague Jim Harrity on hosting his 2nd Annual Wellness Expo in honor of National Recovery Month! 👏🏽

Our Temple University interns, Jason and Jovanny, represented our office and had a great time engaging with the community and sharing resources.

They also got to meet a group of visitors from France who stopped by to see all the excitement in the City Hall courtyard!

Thank you to Councilman Harrity and his team for a wonderful event.

Thank you to Joyful Readers and AmeriCorps for inviting me to serve as the keynote speaker for Joyful Readers’ Ready, Set…Serve! event! It was an honor to celebrate this exciting milestone as tutors are officially transitioning from training into directly serving our young people.

As a parent whose child has personally benefited from Joyful Readers, I know firsthand the incredible impact this program has on our young people. These tutors are
not just helping our children learn to read, but they are building their confidence and opening doors to endless possibilities.

I am so grateful for their commitment to our children and wish them well as they enter this new phase with Joyful Readers !
