After taking a full day to collect my thoughts, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for everyone who stood by our side for the last 14 months. Although the outcome was not what we hoped for, I am extremely proud of the campaign we ran and the message that we stayed loyal to throughout. We were extremely fortunate to have such a diverse group of support who believed in our vision for a better Philadelphia. Our city’s Labor Leaders, First Responders, and members of our Business Coalition all made a huge effort in helping us portray our message and stood behind us as we got to the finish line.
For everyone who stood in our corner, this will not go down as a wasted effort. We brought light to the issues that mattered most, we fought our hardest for what we believed in, and we watched a group of individuals from both sides of the aisle come together for a guy from the neighborhood. For everyone who voted, donated, volunteered, or rooted from the sidelines - I cannot thank you enough. Every single one of you were the heart and soul of this campaign.
Most importantly, I want to thank my family for the sacrifices they made and the dedication they showed throughout this long, tiresome campaign. I always reminded everyone that this race was not about us - but for our children and our grandchildren. I hope that they are able to live in the same Philadelphia that I grew up in - full of respect, opportunity, community values.
To the incoming administration, including our new City Council members and our new Mayor elect, I look forward to witnessing the promised changes and opportunities that we all campaigned on. I congratulate my opponents on a well ran race, and I hope that we can work together to invest in every community, every neighborhood and every child in the city of Philadelphia.
I look forward to returning to my businesses, my community involvement, and my family. I will always value the lessons I learned throughout this experience, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
