Yesterday, we took a moment to do something important—pour back into the people who pour so much into others.
Our “Pouring Back Into You” Staff Appreciation Luncheon was a beautiful afternoon of gratitude, fellowship, and self-care for the incredible team behind the mission of Mothers In Charge.
A special thank you to our own Abdullah of the Reentry Team, owner of Lily May’s, for providing a delicious lunch that brought everyone together around the table. We also want to recognize our staff member Grier for creating the luncheon theme and transforming our conference room into a warm and welcoming space where staff could relax, connect, and be celebrated.
Thank you to every member of the MIC team for your compassion, dedication, and commitment to the communities we serve. Yesterday was all about you. 💗💙

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. 🧡
This month, we honor the lives lost, stand with survivors, and recommit ourselves to building safer communities for future generations.
While Philadelphia has seen encouraging reductions in shootings and homicides in recent years, the work is far from over. Gun violence remains a public health issue that impacts families, neighborhoods, and entire communities long after the headlines fade.
At Mothers In Charge, every month is Gun Violence Awareness Month. Through prevention, intervention, education, advocacy, grief support, workforce development, and community healing, we continue fighting for a future where no family has to experience the pain of losing a loved one to violence.
This month, we encourage our community to learn, engage, advocate, and wear orange in honor of survivors and victims of gun violence. Together, we can spread peace, promote healing, and help save lives.

Yesterday, Dr. Dorothy Johnson-Speight joined fellow community leaders, advocates, and residents at the Spread Love, Not Bullets Gun Violence Awareness Event held at the Kroc Center for an important conversation on preventing violence and creating safer communities.
As always, Dr. Dorothy brought the perspective of a mother, advocate, and changemaker—reminding us that behind every statistic is a family, a story, and a community impacted by loss.
Thank you to the organizers, panelists, and attendees who continue to show up for this work. Through prevention, intervention, education, and healing, we can continue building a safer Philadelphia together.

Introducing Turning Trauma into Triumph (TTT) — a powerful program in partnership with that uses storytelling, spoken word, and creative expression to help young people find their voices and process their experiences in healthy, empowering ways.
Currently working with middle school youth, TTT creates a safe space where creativity becomes a tool for healing, confidence, and self-discovery. The program is led by our staff member and spoken word artist herself, Naima Vivian, alongside other talented Philadelphia artists who help guide and inspire the next generation through art and expression.
