After nearly a decade in development, the Universal Yiddish Library (UYL) has launched! The UYL brings together the Yiddish book collections of four major institutions: the Yiddish Book Center, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, the National Library of Israel, and the NYPL The New York Public Library. For the first time, scholars, students, Yiddish speakers, and anyone interested in Yiddish literature will be able to access more than 60,000 Yiddish book records through one portal, all free of charge. Nearly 20,000 Yiddish books have already been digitized, and over 18,000 are currently fully searchable via OCR (optical character recognition). Explore the Universal Yiddish Library today!

Happy Purim!

Here's a ticket to the Purim Association Fancy Dress Ball held at the Academy of Music in New York City on February 26, 1880.

The event was a fundraiser for the Building Fund of the Hebrew Benevolent and Orphan Asylum Society. The ticket features a lithograph of Queen Esther and her court. The reverse side lists over 100 managers.
