I saw lot of people being treated that way without anyone saying anything nor stepping up to provide support for them so I thought they were created differently to be treated that way and to live in that kind of condition. I came to the United States in 1999 as a refugee due to the 14 years of brutal civil war in my country that killed more than 250,000 people comprising mostly of children, women and the elderly. Upon my arrival in the United States, I saw that people with mental, developmental, blind disabilities/special needs are treated with respect and given full life time support including housing, food, medical, education, daily care, transportation, socialization, community outings etc. In fact I have work in the human services department supporting people with special needs/intellectual disabilities from the year of my arrival to the USA in 1999 to this date as I write. My perception, view, knowledge and experience regarding people with special needs in Africa-Liberia have changed dramatically. I feel very remorseful, guilty and regretful of all the bad treatment melted out to people with disability in Africa. The condition in which people with special needs in my African country of Liberia have troubled my heart and my spirit to the point that I have decided to change their condition by providing full life time support with full 24hrs staffing to people with special needs in Liberia.
