Built in 1789, Historic Strawberry Mansion stood for more than a century before Motherās Day ā also founded in Philadelphia ā became a national holiday in 1914.
Today we celebrate the generations of women, caretakers, volunteers, and community members whose love and dedication helped sustain this historic house for the future, because preservation is love in action. ā¤ļø

Free Art Making Workshop
Saturday Nov 8
1-3pm
Come join us for a free, drop-in art making workshop! Led by artist Elizabeth Hamilton, participants will be able to design and paint their own custom paper plate, inspired by the dinnerware in Strawberry Mansionās collection. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult.
If weather allows, this workshop will be held on the Mansionās back patio, so please dress appropriately. Materials are provided and registration is recommended. To register, please fill out this form.
This workshop celebrates the opening of Elizabeth Hamiltonās current exhibit Descendants: Paper Plate Recreations of the Tucker-Hemphill China Collection, located on the first floor of the Mansion. On exhibit from now until August 2026, the works examine the nature of legacy and permanence through paper plate recreations of the Mansionās renown Tucker-Hemphill porcelain collection.

Cara's engaging presentations bring to light new stories for frequent visitors and first-timers alike. Rove through the rooms of Historic Strawberry Mansion in Fairmount Park, hearing āpop upā stories about themes central to the house: the Sesquicentennial of 1926, Abolition, women saving the day, and āinteresting twists on places you know.ā Program ends with coffee, tea & pastries! All week long weāre spotlighting groups participating in this yearās . Today: AlvĆ©ole! AlvĆ©ole are a company who set up and maintain urban beehives for clients. Along with our old friends the Philly Beekeepers Guild, AlvĆ©ole will be bringing activities and handouts to teach festival attendees all about bees and beekeeping. Weāre happy to have them joining the festival for the first time this year! Come get to know them this Saturday!
