Along with beautifying the corridor, enhancing the existing streetscape will benefit our community by:

3. Improving our watersheds by managing stormwater more sustainably
4. Providing new walking, biking and jogging recreation opportunities to a diversity of residents
5. Putting Philly on the East Coast Greenway map

Opinion: Philly has $800K to make Spring Garden the bike path of our dreams but the clock is ticking 05/23/2020

Awww... remember last year when Randy Lobasso from Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and Daniel Paschal of East Coast Greenway Alliance wrote about the Spring Garden Street Greenway for PlanPhilly? That was nice.

Opinion: Philly has $800K to make Spring Garden the bike path of our dreams but the clock is ticking Spring Garden Street through Center City may only be 2.1 miles long, but it represents an opportunity for the cycling community — in Philadelphia and across the East Coast.

Our friends over at the Office for Transportation Infrastructure and Utilities (OTIS) are working on designing a new Washington Avenue. Our bike and pedestrian infrastructure is only as strong as the network it is a part of, so if you believe in the future of Spring Garden Street, tell OTIS that you want to see bike and ped improvements on Washington, too.

Also - community engagement is difficult during a pandemic. OTIS has done an amazing job making the Washington Ave. conversation open and accessible despite social distancing. Go check it out!
