Tom, our ARSP volunteer at shares a few insights from his service. We thank him for making a difference!
"As a volunteer at the non-profit organization Family Promise of Philadelphia, which supports families at risk of homelessness, I was fortunate enough to experience how strong the sense of community can be in difficult times. What impressed me most was how naturally people help one another, even though many of them have only limited resources themselves.
I think, it’s inspiring to see how many of the families we work with try to give something back to the community as well. For me, it was especially meaningful to witness people who are facing difficult situations themselves still making an effort to contribute through volunteer work when they are unable to help in other ways.
The cooperation between different organizations is also something I perceive as positive. It often happens that people come to us whom we unfortunately cannot support directly. In those cases, we have a long list of community partners to whom we can refer them. In return, these organizations are also able to recommend our services to others.
What impressed me most, however, is the warmth and kindness that can be felt everywhere in this community. Families often tell us afterward that the feeling of being welcome and not being alone in their situation was just as valuable as the financial support that we provide itself. This experience has shown me how much an engaged community can achieve and how important solidarity is, especially during difficult times in life.“

Summer is often overlooked as one of the most challenging seasons for housing-insecure families.
When school lets out, families lose access to daily meals, child supervision, and transportation support. Childcare costs surge, utility bills rise, and work schedules become harder to manage.
Help our families this summer by donating goods that make it easier to maintain their housing: www.familypromisephl.org/take-action

The weather can't decide between spring and summer, so we had a Sprummer Giveaway event to embrace the mash-up. 🌷☀️
Families browsed tables with shoes, baby clothes, kitchen essentials, bedding, and all the little things that make home feel more comfortable. And the best part: 50 families left with items that will make daily life a little easier!
Thank you to our amazing social worker interns, staff, and volunteers who guided families and helped restock tables.

A stable home shouldn’t be something families have to constantly fight to keep.
As conversations continue this month about the affordability of housing, we’re reminded how quickly a single setback can put a family at risk of housing instability: lost hours at work, a medical bill, a rent increase.
At Family Promise of Philadelphia, we work to prevent homelessness before it begins through eviction prevention and shelter diversion services, partnering with families, landlords, and community organizations to keep families safely housed and connected to their communities.

We are grateful to the 9th grade class at Cheltenham High School for raising $564 to support families facing housing insecurity!
As part of their semester-long project to deepen empathy and understanding of housing insecurity, students created a powerful scenario-based exhibition inspired by the characters in Evicted by Matthew Desmond. Visitors explored the difficult choices many families face and learned from both the perspectives of tenants and landlords.
Selling handmade gifts, the students chose to donate every dollar to our organization. Thank you to the Cheltenham 9th graders for using your creativity, compassion, and talent to strengthen our community!

Thank you to all who joined us last week for Family Promise of Philadelphia’s 2026 Annual Meeting!
We were honored to hear from graduates of our programs, representatives from seven of our partner congregations, and a special guest speaker from POWER Interfaith. One takeaway was clear: lasting change happens when communities come together to support families with compassion and dignity.
We are grateful to every speaker, supporter, and congregation partner who made the evening so meaningful. Thank you to those who donated diapers for families in our programs. And, a special thank you to United Lutheran Seminary for hosting us.

Financial literacy and tenant rights go hand in hand when it comes to housing stability.
After receiving conflicting information about rent and back payments, Ms. Naima Muhammed enrolled in our Keys to a Better Tomorrow workshop. Through the program, she gained a better understanding of her rights and the financial knowledge needed to advocate for safer, more stable housing for herself and her four-year-old daughter.
Her story is a reminder that when families have the tools to navigate complex housing challenges, a stable home becomes possible.
