Philadelphia Socialist Alternative Maintained by the Philadelphia Branch of Socialist Alternative We fight for democratic socialism where ordinary people will have control over our daily lives.

Socialist Alternative is a nationwide organization fighting in our workplaces, communities, and campuses against the exploitation and injustices people face every day. We are community activists fighting against budget cuts in public services; we are union activists fighting for living wage jobs and militant, democratic unions; we are people of all colors speaking out against racism and attacks on immigrants, students organizing against tuition hikes and war, people of all genders fighting sexism and homophobia. We believe the Republicans and Democrats are both parties of big business, and we are campaigning to build an independent, alternative party of workers and young people to fight for the interests of the millions, not the millionaires. We see the global capitalist system as the root cause of the economic crisis, poverty, discrimination, war, and environmental destruction. As capitalism moves deeper into crisis, a new generation of workers and youth must join together to take the top 500 corporations into public ownership under democratic control to end the ruling elites' global competition for profits and power. We believe the dictatorships that existed in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe were perversions of what socialism is really about. Socialist Alternative is also in political solidarity with International Socialist Alternative https://worldsocialist.net a worldwide socialist organization with active groups in more than 35 countries, on every continent. Convict the Cornell 7! Justice for Jane Doe and all survivors of sexual assault! While the Cornell 7 get slaps on the wrist, university administrations are arresting and expelling pro-Palestine protesters, showing exactly who this system serves. We need a mass movement to demand justice for Jane Doe, and to fight for fully safe, legal, and free abortion and more. Ultimately, we need to take on the whole capitalist system that breeds misogyny and gender-based violence.

Join us at City Hall this Thursday at 4pm for a national day of action against sexual assault as well!

On October 10, Minnesota 15 defendant Treasure Thoreson will be in Philly speaking alongside local labor and anti-ICE organizers.
Treasure is one of 15 anti-ICE activists facing federal “conspiracy" charges for their role in the mass, nonviolent resistance and general strike that ended ICE's invasion of the Twin Cities. We won't be intimidated!

Join us on Saturday October 3 at 1pm at Philly City Hall (north side) as part of a national and international day of action in solidarity with the MN 15. We will have a short rally then go out in groups to hang up hundreds of posters and hand out flyers across the city to help make the meeting on October 10 as big as possible. No experience is needed and all are welcome, we will have a short training before we start. DM us if your organization wants to co-sponsor!

We were out yesterday at the Southeast Asian Market talking to tons of people about the upcoming October 10th meeting with Minnesota 15 defendant Treasure Thoreson (swipe to the last slide for more info).

Last winter a mass movement of resistance, culminating in a 350,000-strong general strike, forced ICE to end its occupation of Minneapolis. Now, the federal government has indicted 15 nonviolent activists in Minnesota who fought back against ICE's bloody occupation.

Join us on Saturday Oct. 10 at 5pm at the Workers United Union Hall (22 S. 22nd st) to hear from Treasure and other labor and anti-ICE activists and talk about how we can fight back. Stay tuned for info on how to get involved in more outreach leading up to Oct. 10th and dm us if you want to help!

Last winter a mass movement of resistance, culminating in a 350,000-strong general strike, forced ICE to end its occupation of Minneapolis. Now, the federal government has indicted 15 nonviolent activists in Minnesota who fought back against ICE’s bloody occupation. We won't be intimidated!

Join us Saturday, October 10 at 5pm to hear from Treasure Thoreson, Minnesota 15 defendant, Executive Board member of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators, and member of Black Cat Worker Collective.

📣Drop the charges against the MN 15 and all anti-ICE protesters!
📣Full citizenship rights for all: free and return the detained and deported!
📣Abolish ICE and fund schools, housing, and healthcare instead!

Over 150 people rallied outside City Hall today to say NO DATA CENTERS IN PHILLY!

The city is willing to close schools, rec centers, and libraries while preparing to give tax breaks to Big Tech and corporate developers. Plans to build data centers in Gray's Ferry and Northeast are being discussed, but only behind closed doors and with no community input because city elected officials and Big Tech know we'll fight back.

Data center moratorium now! Fund schools, not AI data centers!

Temple students stand with the Minnesota 15!!! Fifteen peaceful anti-ICE activists were indicted for their involvement in the protests in January against the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. We took this video at our recent open meeting to show that we won't let Trump attack our movement!

‼️📣Open meeting this Thursday at 6:30pm at Temple U‼️📣 Trump arrested 15 anti-ICE protesters in Minnesota, including 8 union members. Trump wants to criminalize protesting so that ICE can continue with their brutal record-breaking level of deportations and detentions. Join us this Thursday to talk more about building the movement to defend the Minnesota 15 and abolish ICE, and ultimately why we need a whole new system and to overthrow capitalism.

🗓️ Thursday, September 3 @ 6:30pm
📍 Hank's Cafe (Ritter Annex)

Bring friends interested in learning more about the fight for socialism, all are welcome!

Today for Fourth of July in Philadelphia, hundreds of veterans came from all over the country, joined by unions and community members, to protest against Trump's war in Iran and the endless funneling of money towards ICE and war, instead of healthcare and schools. We talked to veterans about why they were out protesting today ✊

The Department of War budget surpassed $1.5 trillion in the past year, and Trump has personally made billions off of his second term. The biggest blow to Trump was the January 23 general strike in Minneapolis against ICE, not the Democrats or the courts. We need more protests, occupations, and strikes against Trump's bloody imperialist wars abroad and at home.

TODAY! ALL OUT IN SOLIDARITY WITH MINNEAPOLIS!

Unions, immigrant rights groups, and community groups have called for
"No work, no school, and no shopping" in Minneapolis, and we're showing that Philly stands with workers fighting back against Trump and ICE. Trump's barbaric invasion of Minneapolis and other cities won't be stopped without a fight - but the working class shutting down profits has the power to win.

Minneapolis workers are showing the way, and we need to follow and prepare for a national one-day strike and more.
