Join the Committee of Seventy and Franklin & Marshall College for Pulse of Pennsylvania: Voter Insights Ahead of the Midterm Elections on October 21 at 6 p.m. at the Ethical Society of Philadelphia.

This news is exactly what we have come to expect from this office and is completely embarrassing at the same time.

The failure to pay $20 million owed to the city is just the latest example of egregious mismanagement. Our schools, parks, and services are desperate for funding. Just a few months ago, the City considered raising taxes, and now an elected official suddenly “finds” millions of dollars that could keep schools open or serve our neighborhoods. The Sheriff’s Office’s continued failures are completely unacceptable.

We are grateful to court and Common Pleas Judge Paula Patrick. We look forward to seeing how the Courts and City Council hold the Sheriff’s Office accountable for this latest development.

Philadelphia, PA – Yesterday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed legislation allowing unaffiliated voters to vote in primaries by a bipartisan vote of 115 to 88. The legislation, House Bill 280, allows independent voters to choose which party’s primary ballot to complete. Pennsylvania is one of just eight states with fully closed primaries.
