We joined and to help give a tour and talk about the work that went into Thomas Paine Plaza.

Our work on the Plaza created a vibrant centerpiece of Center City's network of public spaces alongside LOVE Park and Dilworth Park. On the tour, our team talked about the community engagement process, design vision, and key design details that informed the transformation of this historic civic space

Two weeks ago, planted a ceremonial tree and announced the renovations that are coming to Lemon Hill Park.

After one of the most successful FIFA Fan Festivals of all the World Cup host cities - an event that welcomed visitors from 180 countries - Philadelphia will be continuing the excitement with some major renovations to the park.

This project could not happen without the support of the , , , , , Philadelphia Soccer 2026, and all of the community members and groups that make the park feel like home to so many.

The project will include:
- New Playground
- Basketball and baseball field renovations
- Historical stairway masonry restoration
- New tree plantings
-Lighting Improvements
- New picnic pavilions
-New signage and security bollards.

Meet one of our interns, Kara Harris, who has been with the Capital Program Office since March.

Kara's main focus during the co-op with the Capital Program Office has been working for public safety team, where she has been able to get a better understanding of construction management and what coordination looks like between project managers and contractors.

She is currently in her fourth year at Drexel University and is studying Construction Management.

Yesterday, we planted a tree at Lemon Hill Park, a small act today that will provide shade for the generations to come.

Together with , , , , , and , we announced the launch of the Lemon Hill Legacy Project, an investment in transforming Lemon Hill from a hidden gem to a destination for Philadelphians and visitors alike.

From a new inclusive playground and improved recreational spaces to new trees, lighting, accessible pathways, and restored historic features, this project will build on Lemon Hill’s history while creating new opportunities for people to gather, play, and enjoy this incredible park.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to the community and partners who are helping shape the future of Lemon Hill.

Join us tomorrow, Monday, October 5th to celebrate upcoming legacy improvements to Lemon Hill Park! We'll officially kick off construction at 3:30 p.m. by planting the first of 100 trees throughout the park as part of the improvements.

We'll have hoagies from Brewerytown's own , tunes from DJ Foxy Nora, and games for the kids.

Following the success of the FIFA Fan Festival, the City of Philadelphia is excited to begin the next phase of investments that will build on this momentum and enhance the park for the community for years to come.

We will be celebrating the start of construction with a community event and tree planting on Monday, October 5th, at 3:30 pm!

The project will include:
-New playground, including a 43,500-square-foot inclusive playspace
-Basketball court renovation
-Baseball field renovation
-Historical stairway masonry restoration
-Mansion HVAC improvement
-New trees and plantings
-Lighting improvements
-New picnic pavilions – Two ADA-accessible pavilions with seating and views overlooking the Philadelphia Museum of Art and skyline.
-New wayfinding signage
-Security bollards to protect walkways and planting beds from vehicle encroachment

On Monday, October 5, we’re hosting a special community event to officially kick off construction on the Lemon Hill Legacy project - and to say thank you to the Park's neighbors for helping host the FIFA Fan Festival this summer, which welcomed more than 500,000 visitors from around the world.

Come celebrate with us and enjoy free food and entertainment from local vendors as we kick off the next chapter for Lemon Hill!

On Friday, we cut the ribbon on a reimagined Thomas Paine Plaza!

What's new at Paine? This $18 million project delivered:

- Improvements to the roof system below the plaza paving
- Shade structures with table and chair seating areas
- Metal and wooden bench areas for sitting
- A redesigned skate plaza space
- Landscaping, including a variety of flowers, trees, and deep blue-hued planters that introduce color throughout the site
- Over 50 bike parking spaces
- ADA-accessible ramp providing an accessible path from the sidewalk to the front of the building
- Restoration of the existing city-owned 40ft bronze and granite sculpture, Government of the People
- Future bronze statue of historic trail blazer and Philadelphian, Sadie T.M. Alexander (to be installed in 2027)

A big shout-out to Skate Philly and Vans for supporting the new skate plaza with a $300,000 contribution, and West Philly's own Jahmir Brown for sharing some inspiring words and helping us cut that ribbon!
