A Win for the H.O.M.E. Initiative!
L&I ISC joined Council President Kenyatta Johnson, the Philadelphia Land Bank, PHDC, the Department of Planning and Development, and Civetta Property Group to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for 12 brand new Turn the Key homes in South Philadelphia! 🏠✨
These beautiful homes were built for income-qualified first-time homebuyers, making the dream of homeownership more attainable.
This project also marked a major milestone — the first use of L&I’s Virtual Inspections Application (VIA), which allows contractors and property owners to complete certain inspections remotely using just a smartphone or tablet. 🚀
VIA represents a big step forward in efficiency, accessibility, and collaboration across city departments — all part of the City’s HOME-OP initiative to streamline development processes.

Philly Hosts Session on Strategic Communication 🗣️
On July 11, as part of the 2025 National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Conference, Shemeka Moore, Communications Director for L&I ISC and QOL, led a session hosted by the Managing Director’s Office. The event brings together county officials from across the country for dynamic workshops, in-depth policy discussions and is centered on the evolving challenges and innovations in local government.
Her session, “Telling Your Story: With or Without the Media,” offered public officials practical tools for communicating during both everyday operations and high-pressure moments.
Using real examples—from emergency incidents to major city initiatives—Shemeka emphasized the importance of preparation, message control, and resident engagement, even when the media isn’t in the room. 📰🎥
We’re proud to see Philadelphia’s leadership represented on a national stage.

Members of our team visited St. Gabriel’s Parish to speak with students in the Youth Skills Build Program about their own experiences in the trades and the career paths that led them to L&I.
Staff from various units talked about their day-to-day work, shared their backgrounds in the trades, and highlighted how those skills shaped their careers in public service.
The students were engaged and asked thoughtful questions - some even expressed interest in joining the Department in the future!
We’re proud to support programs that help connect Philly’s youth to meaningful career opportunities. 💼🛠️

On May 29, members of our team toured Mayor Cherelle L. Parker’s Riverview Wellness Center on State Road.
This team played a vital role in the development and opening of the center — and during the visit, they saw firsthand the impact of their work. 🛠️🏥
Riverview offers recovery-based housing and comprehensive health services in a supportive, community-focused environment. Residents benefit from workforce development, onsite classes, and resources that prepare them for long-term stability and permanent housing.
A powerful reminder that the work we do has the potential to impact the lives of everyone throughout Philadelphia. 💙
