Vehicle Safety Reminder

We are reminding residents to take a few extra precautions to help protect their vehicles and belongings. We have seen an uptick in vehicles being rummaged through, along with a few vehicle thefts in the area in recent weeks.

A few simple steps can make a difference:

• Always lock your vehicle, even when it is parked in your driveway.

• Take your key fob with you or keep it securely inside your home. Never leave your key fob inside your vehicle, even if the vehicle is locked.

• Remove valuables from your vehicle. Wallets, purses, electronics, bags, loose change, fi****ms, and other valuables can attract thieves.

• Park in well-lit areas whenever possible. Motion-activated lighting around your driveway or parking area can also help deter criminal activity.

• Consider security cameras or a video doorbell to help monitor your property and provide valuable evidence if a crime occurs.

• Check that all windows are closed and doors are locked before walking away from your vehicle, even if you will only be gone for a few minutes.

These small steps can help reduce opportunities for theft and make it more difficult for criminals to target your vehicle.

If you see suspicious activity, particularly individuals checking vehicle door handles or looking into parked cars, please call 9-1-1 as soon as possible. Your awareness and quick reporting can help prevent crimes and assist officers with identifying those responsible.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep Springfield Township safe.

Road work to pave several Township streets is scheduled to start September 28 through October 26. As part of this project, the existing roadway surface will be milled and then repaved with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface. Glasgow Inc. will be conducting the work on behalf of the Township. All construction is weather dependent.

Streets to be Paved:
Pine Road – Willow Grove to Mermaid
Chesney Lane – Longfield to Bethlehem
Downs Road – Chesney to Heatherwood
Glendalough Road – Chesney to Terminal
Heatherwood Road – Glendalough to Longfield
Patton Road – Cheltenham to 8810 Patton
Marshall Road – Hull to Cul-de-sac
Claridge/Widener – Cheltenham to Hull
Clark Road – Hull to Cul-de-sac
Apel Ave – Pennsylvania to Dead End
Heritage Drive – Pennsylvania to Ronald
Ronald Circle – Heritage to Heritage
Lynn Ave – Pennsylvania to Dead End
Bridge Street – Bruce to RR

During this work, the streets listed above will be closed to traffic. Paving will take place around 7AM - 3:30PM. Residents and emergency vehicles will still be able to access homes on those streets while they are being actively paved. Contractors will work around buses and bus stops, so they are not impacted. Streets will be posted with temporary "No Parking - Street to be Paved" signs approximately three (3) days before work is scheduled to begin.

Please make arrangements to park cars off of these streets on the day the work will be performed. After the street is paved, please avoiding parking on the new surface during the first night.

Motorists are also advised to allow for extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent. Questions and concerns can be directed to the Public Works Department, 215-836-7600.

DO NOT CLICK LINKS ON YOUR PHONE SENT BY TEXT!!!

A recent scam targeting users in Flourtown and Cheltenham is sending local users a text message from TD Security saying their account has been compromised. The link provided is giving scammers access to your device and account information. Scammers are moving funds into the checking account from other accounts and letting the victim think that TD Staff are behind it, and that the security department is going to make an arrest. They are instructing victims to take money out and either meet a TD security person at a nearby location, or to drop the money in a car in the parking lot, which then flees the area. TD Bank will never provide you a link to press if there is a problem with your account. You may receive a text or call, but call the main number and ask for security.

Never trust a link in your email or text messages. Always call the main number and ask for security. Nobody legitimate will ever ask you to download an app, click a link, or ask you for remote access to your phone/computer.

When in doubt, go to your local branch and ask for a manager. TD Bank is already aware of this scam and bank management is helping users process their fraud and get their accounts back.
