PPU had a great third and final session of the semester in which the members voted to implement a voucher program for universal preschool in the United States.
Amid a hectic and contentious flurry of amendments to the original bill, military spending, raising the retirement age, and ending certain tax credits were all discussed as ways to fund the new program.
Thanks to all who came to the session or participated at any point in the semester. We look forward to seeing you after the New Year as PPU enters its second semester!

The next PPU Session is on October 16th. What's the debate topic?
Resolved: To provide support in the form of training, equipment and supplies to appropriately vetted Syrian groups to defend the Syrian people against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), to promote the conditions for stability in the region, and to protect the United States and its allies, including the Syrian people, from terrorism in Syria.
We would also like to give a special thanks to one of our members, Kareen Movsesyan, for his work in drafting the bill.

Great turnout tonight and fantastic debate from all quarters in the question the flat tax vs. the progressive tax. Although the progressive tax won the day, the proponents of the flat tax gave them a run for it and there were plenty of excellent arguments on both sides.
Thank you to all who attended and contributed to the success of this, the first session of the Penn Political Union. May there be many more to come.
