Nearly 350 residents of the 170th District joined me Thursday at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 for my annual Senior Dance!

It was a wonderful afternoon filled with music, dancing and plenty of smiles. The event also gave our seniors an opportunity to learn more about valuable programs, services, and resources available to older adults in our community.

It was truly a pleasure to celebrate our seniors and provide an afternoon dedicated to them. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s Senior Dance such a special event!

I was pleased to attend an event at Archbishop Ryan High School with The Bridge Educational Foundation, which today contributed $481,250 in scholarships to Philadelphia families through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs.

These programs provide businesses and individuals with tax credits for supporting student scholarships, helping families access educational opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach.

EITC and OSTC are important programs that support students and families across Pennsylvania. Their success demonstrates the continued need to expand educational opportunities for students, including through a new federal program that could provide an additional $1 billion in scholarships.

Gov. Josh Shapiro should opt in to this important federal program and help make even more scholarship opportunities available to Pennsylvania students and families.

I was proud to join The Bridge Educational Foundation and local students to recognize the important impact these scholarship programs are having in our community.

We're joining the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General to celebrate Financial Planning Month!

Students in grades K-12 can participate in the department’s Be Money $mart Activity Book Cover Contest. Create a drawing or design and submit it for consideration by Oct. 30. The winning submission will be announced by the auditor general at the end of the month!

Saint Martha Church Philadelphia celebrated its 60th anniversary with a dedicated mass last Saturday. Bishop Efren Esmilla, auxiliary bishop from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, served as the main celebrant for the special occasion.

Mass was followed by a Hall of Fame induction and reception in the parish hall.

Congratulations to the parish!

HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives’ Republican leadership team last week asked Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday to investigate whether a systemic pattern of discrimination against Jewish students exists in the School District of Philadelphia.

House Republican Caucus Chairwoman Martina White (R-Philadelphia) discussed disturbing news reports with her colleagues and asked them to join her in requesting the probe be conducted by the attorney general’s Civil Rights Enforcement Section.

“Jewish students, like students from all faith and ethnic backgrounds, deserve to learn in an environment where they are respected, included and free from discrimination. It is impossible to learn when you are worried about continued aggressions,” White said.

White authored a letter signed by House Republican Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton) and others. The letter cites online threats of Jewish parents and students, a federal discrimination case involving sw****ka graffiti, and curriculum material from a polarizing initiative called “Teaching Palestine.”

White said the need to address these concerns carries even greater urgency with the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks on Israel, which led to a disturbing rise in antisemitism across the United States and globe.

“The School District of Philadelphia has a troubling history of not protecting its Jewish students. School leaders need to speak up and bring an end to that pattern,” White said. “I thank our attorney general in advance for his expeditious review of these concerns.”

When a federal judge referred District Attorney Larry Krasner and his team to the U.S. Attorney's Office over allegations of obstruction of justice and conspiracy, it was latest in an ongoing pattern of behavior. The Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus has joined me in sounding the alarm about Krasner for years.

Collin Ludwiczak visited the Capitol this week to sign his bill about enhanced penalties for buying and selling drugs. Collin developed the idea during my Ought To Be a Law contest. He is a student at MaST Community Charter School and a great representation of the thoughtful young people we have in the 170th District.
