Friends of arrested West Philly activist Anthony Smith rally to call for his release 02/21/2021

Thank you to all those who attended the BARS Conference! As we spotlighted throughout the weekend, BARS’ suggested donation for attendees is Anthony, or “Ant” Smith’s legal defense committee. Anthony is a West Philadelphia educator, beloved community member, and key organizer and volunteer at multiple organizations throughout the city. He’s well known for his dedication as an empathetic peacemaker and advocate on behalf of disenfranchised community members.

Last fall, Anthony was arrested by federal officers and taken from his home based on his alleged involvement in arson during a Black Lives Matter protest in May. Following a long history of state repression of dissent, the Justice Department decided to charge him under federal law, despite Ant maintaining his innocence and receiving a national outpouring of support for his freedom.

BARS is suggesting that if possible, attendees donate to Anthony’s legal fundraiser in order to pay for his lawyer as well as expert witnesses before his trial. Anthony has always fought for the Philadelphia community, and when he is targeted, it’s our duty to fight for him. You can donate via PayPal or Cashapp!
