Today, September 11, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of the terror attacks that forever changed our nation.
Twenty-five years later, the Philipsburg Fire Department pauses to remember the innocent lives lost, including members of the FDNY, the Port Authority Police Department, and the NYPD who made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives along with nearly 2,600 civilians.
We also remember the countless firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, dispatchers, healthcare workers, and ordinary citizens who answered the call that day and in the difficult days that followed. We honor those who later lost their lives or continue to suffer from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.
For first responders, September 11 carries a particularly profound meaning. The courage and selflessness displayed by our brothers and sisters who entered the towers while others were escaping remain an enduring example of what it means to serve.
A quarter-century has passed, but our promise remains the same:
We will remember their names.
We will remember their courage.
We will remember their sacrifice.
WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
Here at home, the Philipsburg Fire Department asks our friends and neighbors throughout Philipsburg and the surrounding communities to join us today in remembering the 2,977 innocent lives that were lost that day.
Our community may be hundreds of miles from New York City, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, but the events of September 11 touched every American community — including our own. The spirit of service demonstrated that day lives on every time a firefighter, police officer, EMT, dispatcher, or ordinary citizen steps forward to help a neighbor in need.
As a volunteer fire department, we are especially reminded that service begins at home. We are proud to stand beside the men and women of our local fire, EMS, law enforcement, emergency communications, and other public safety agencies who continue to serve our communities every day.
🇺🇸25 Years. Never Forgotten. September 11, 2021.🇺🇸
