Honoring Women of Service: National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona and Prescott National Cemetery Celebrate National Women's Month
In March, we proudly honor and celebrate National Women's Month, a time to recognize the remarkable contributions and sacrifices made by women throughout history. At the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona and Prescott National Cemetery, we pay tribute to the courageous women who have served our country with unwavering commitment and to those who have supported them.

Throughout the years, women have played vital roles in our Armed Forces, from the Revolutionary War to present-day conflicts. They have served not only on the front lines but also as nurses, pilots, engineers, and in countless other capacities. Their bravery, resilience, and dedication have shaped the course of our nation's history.

This month, as we walk through the serene grounds of our cemeteries, let us reflect on the countless stories of valor and perseverance. Each headstone represents a legacy of service and sacrifice, and among them are the stories of extraordinary women who answered the call to serve.

We invite all members of the community to join us in honoring these women by visiting the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona and Prescott National Cemetery. Take a moment to acknowledge the contributions of female veterans and service members who have paved the way for future generations.

Thank you to all the women who have served and continue to serve our nation. Your contributions do not go unnoticed, and your legacy lives on in our hearts and minds.

Yesterday, we conducted our first green burial at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Retired Army Major John C. Trice had full military honors at his committal service, and was buried in a green burial section that is kept natural – meaning we don’t use pesticides or other types of chemicals to keep a more natural appearance.

His family chose to witness his interment. When we asked his wife why she chose a green burial, she said that he didn’t like traditional funerals, and she thought having a green burial at NMCA would be a wonderful way to honor his wishes. She wanted his ashes to be with the earth. “He earned it.”
