HHOTS AZ- Helping Homeless on the Streets

Thank you to Mike, Finland, and Julie with AFOH - Arizona Friends of Homeless for helping out with a bicycle for one of our disabled, working homeless!! We appreciate you!

A single mother of three spotted a homeless man in the parking lot of a convenience store. She stopped and asked him a question, then told him that she was going to put him up in a motel room. Once he was in for the night, she blasted his room number to the entire town on Facebook, sending droves of people to his door, when the desperate man realized what the woman was really up to.

Merry Christmas, everyone!! I truly hope you are all enjoying the holidays with your friends and family and that your hearts are warm with the Christmas Spirit. I would ask you all though, to take 5 minutes between now and tomorrow evening to think about all of those for whom these next few days are just "normal". Normal meaning cold, hungry, searching for a place to rest, but constantly being chased away. Lucky if you can even find a gas station or business that will let you use the bathroom. If you would, take those 5 minutes and consider making a donation to a nonprofit that tries to make things a little better, or fish out some socks, jackets, blankets, warm clothing and put them in a bag to donate to a nonprofit, not a thrift store, but a group that will distribute them to the streets directly where they are needed, or use your 5 minutes to spread the word about the problem, or say a 5 minute prayer for those suffering that they might find relief and may e a reason and help to lift themselves up to get off of the streets and the desire for a better life.

Anyway, we did cut back our outreachby so.e in August because Amanda was in the hospital, but she is doing great again now. Also, we did go through COVID in September and were therefore unable to serve for a few weeks, as we did not want any homeless or other volunteers to get sick.

We are back in full force now and up to serving around 200 peer week, up by 25% from 6 months ago. As such, we can definitely use volunteers, more sandwich makers, a Facebook manager, website manager, and anyone interested in forming another outreach team.

Thank you so much to Brianna, David, Moises, and Arturo with the City of Phoenix Manager's Office at Volunteer PHX for heat relief supplies!! We received 48 -40oz insulated water bottles, 60 -22oz insulated water bottles, 10 sunhats, 50 small sunscreens, 100 cooling towels, 600 red draw string backpack bags, 2 -10 gallon insulated beverage coolers, and 1 -60 quart cooler with wheels. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated!!

All insulated water bottles, cooling towels, and sunscreen were gone that same night for our outreach. However, all of the homeless that we were at to provide these supplies to were so excited and grateful. We have been able to carry extra water with the beverage coolers. Also, we were donated several cases of OJ, so we were able to serve that cold with ice as well.
