Superintendent Boggs is proud to be collaborating with Grand Canyon University on workforce development initiatives for Maricopa County students. 🧡💜

Yesterday’s visit included time with GCU President Brian Mueller, Dr. Cherryl Paul, Assistant Vice President of K12 Strategic Alliances, Dr. Meredith Critchfield, Dean of the College of Education, and Dr. Pam Rowland, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, on ways to open more career pathways for students across the county. The conversation is just getting started, and there’s a lot to build together.

Superintendent Boggs also had the honor of personally congratulating Mike and Sheila Ingram on the grand opening of the Sheila and Mike Ingram Honors College building. Their investment in Arizona students will be felt for generations.

Superintendent Boggs is always looking for opportunities that give every student a real range of career options and a clear path to the future. The sky is the limit, and these kids deserve every resource it takes to get there. They have their entire community behind them. 🎓

🎃 Halloween is almost here! If your family is heading out to trick-or-treat, a few simple habits keep the night fun and safe for everyone:

👻 Go in a group, and make sure younger kids have an adult along.

🔦 Carry a flashlight or glow sticks, and add reflective tape so drivers can see you.

🚸 Stick to well-lit, familiar neighborhoods, cross at corners, and watch for cars.

👀 Pick costumes kids can see and move in — face paint is safer than masks that block vision.

🍬 Check all treats before eating, and toss anything open, unwrapped, or homemade from strangers.

This week, Superintendent Shelli Boggs attended the Higley Unified Governing Board meeting. These are her main takeaways from the meeting:

The Budget Reality: Following past override failures, HUSD is looking at a permanent $14M budget reduction once the phase-down wraps up in FY2028. Cash reserves have kept things afloat and avoided immediate cuts, but that isn't sustainable. While "rightsizing" is clearly an emotional topic, deep expenditure cuts will be required to stabilize operations. The district is facing depleting reserves and fixed facility payments that require the board to aggressively manage their remaining M&O budget.

Taxpayer Relief: The board approved a bond refinancing resolution. By locking in lower interest rates, they are reducing debt service costs and passing those direct savings along to local taxpayers. It's a great example of smart financial stewardship that should help build real trust and confidence throughout the community.

Superintendent Boggs spent the morning at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, and it’s clear why GCU has become such a force for Arizona students. 🧡💜

The day started at Lux Precision Manufacturing for the AZ MEP event, where the Arizona Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), the Arizona Department of Education’s Career & Technical Education division, and GCU brought middle and high school students face-to-face with industry through hands-on activities. Nearby, Director Connor Vicary led a tour of Canyon Ventures, the entrepreneurial space where GCU students build real-world skills by working for and running their own businesses.

From there, Superintendent Boggs joined the ribbon-cutting for the new Sheila and Mike Ingram Honors College building on GCU’s main campus and met with Dr. Meredith Critchfield, Dean of the College of Education, and Dr. Pam Rowland, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology.

She then joined the AZ MEP students for a group photo before wrapping up at the Partner with a Principal luncheon, an initiative GCU champions to connect community leaders with the principals shaping Arizona’s schools.

A big, huge thank you to Aysha Bell and the entire Grand Canyon University team for being such gracious hosts. What an incredible university with so much to offer Arizona students. 🎓
