Are you a First-Time Homebuyer wondering where to start? Here’s a step-by-step checklist to get you going:

• Check your credit score
• Clean up your credit
• Figure out how much you can afford
• Find a loan officer you trust
• Get pre-approved
• Find out what you need for a down payment and closing costs
• Start saving money for down payment and closing costs
• Search for a realtor or ask your loan officer for a referral (we consistently work with the same realtors we trust to take care of our you!)

So by now we all know the first step to buying a house is getting pre-approved. But what all goes into this process? Your lender will ask you for the following documentation in order to put together your pre-approval. Think of it as a list of ingredients for your home buying recipe!

🧁 Identification (drivers license/photo ID, passport, etc.)

🧁 Income (paystubs, w-2’s, tax returns, etc.)

🧁 Debt (credit cards, auto loans, student loans, etc.)

🧁 Assets (bank statements, retirement, etc.)

🧁 Any other necessary documents (rent history, alimony, etc.)

Easy as pie 😉

Many people think the first step to buying a home is speaking to a realtor. Believe it or not, the first thing you want to do is get pre-approved for a loan! Getting pre-approved will tell you how much you can afford and how much the lender will let you borrow.

This is where I come in. With a pre-approval, when you find “the one” you want to put an offer down on, you will be able to show the seller you are a serious buyer who can afford to buy their home.
