Engineers of the Future

This week, the winning teams from Engineers of the Future summer camp got a tour of the light rail construction alignment as part of their prize. They heard from project leaders from PGH Wong and Kiewit Corporation, learning about the engineering that goes into the project and the importance of community engagement. The field trip served as an excellent companion to our camp in introducing students to the field of engineering and how it is playing out in their communities.

Engineers of the Future summer camp was a success! More than 50 students learned about engineering principles thanks to mentorship from our PGH Wong engineers. The students built bridges during the camp which were judged on the final day at our science fair. Judges stacked concrete pavers on top of the bridges to test their strength and the winning teams' bridges held more than 25 lbs each! The winning teams will take a field trip to tour the construction alignment and see what they learned about in action.

Week 1 of Engineers of the Future camp is complete! This week, students at South Pointe Junior High School learned from engineers from PGH Wong as they began to build their bridges. Building will continue next week and a science fair winner will be announced! Engineers of the Future is a partnership between Valley Metro, City of Phoenix, AZ USA, Torres Multicultural, and PGH Wong.

Engineers of the Future summer camp at South Pointe Junior High is in 3️⃣ days! Fun fact: the kits we're giving students contain a total of 2,640 popsicle sticks. Our partnership with Valley Metro, City of Phoenix, AZ USA, and PGH Wong aims to inspire students to pursue a STEAM career. This summer's students will build a bridge and have it tested by real-life engineers!

To celebrate Teachers Appreciation Week this week, we've been busy dropping off gift cards to teachers in schools along the Southcentral Phoenix light rail extension construction alignment. We appreciate all you do!
