D-DAY ANNIVERSARY: 78-years-ago today, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch on the beaches of Normandy which were heavily-fortified by N**i Germany.

More than 9,000 were killed or wounded but the battle laid the foundation for the Allies ultimate victory in Europe.

On this day in 1908, Congress created the Medial Reserve Corps, known today as the Army Reserve. Now, nearly 200,000 Americans in the U.S. Army Reserve account for roughly 20% of the entire Army's fighting force. Happy 114th Birthday, Army Reserve!

U.S. Air Force Reserve Birthday: Comprised of Reserve Airmen from the 4th Air Force, 10th Air Force and 2nd Air Force, the Air Force Reserve was established in 1948 by President Harry S. Truman.

Nearly 70,000 Reservists serve at 9 Reserve bases, 54 active duty, Joint Reserve and Air National Guard bases and several other locations. Units provide training, operational, logistical and safety support. It includes the 943rd Rescue Group, Davis-Monthan AFB & 944th Fighter Wing, Luke AFB here in Arizona.
