⚠️ How old is your smoke alarm? ⚠️

Take a minute during Fire Prevention Month to check the smoke alarms in your home. Press the test button on each alarm and make sure everyone can hear it.

✅ Test every smoke alarm.
✅ Replace alarms that are 10 years old or older—even hard-wired models.
✅ Make sure everyone knows what the alarm sounds like and how to get out safely.
✅ Choose a family meeting place outside.

Working smoke alarms provide an early warning when every second counts.

Take a minute to check and test your alarms today. It could help save a life. ❤️

These photos tell the story better than we ever could. ❤️

Camp Courage Camper of the Year Angel and Firefighter of the Year Matt recently returned from the International Association of Fire Fighters International Burn Camp, representing Arizona alongside burn survivors and firefighter mentors from across North America.

The week was filled with new friendships, unforgettable experiences, and connections that stretched far beyond state lines.

Angel described the trip as an exciting opportunity to meet new people and create lasting memories.

Matt shared, "Angel was simply a sight to behold, making friends with everyone." Additionally, one of his biggest takeaways was seeing another burn camp community come together with the same spirit and support that makes Camp Courage so special.

"The camp and its people were just as wonderful and helpful as ours and have strangely enough become an extension of our family."

Take a look at some of the memories they brought home and the reason opportunities like this matter so much for burn survivors.

☀️ The sun was shining on our team at last Friday's Smoke Alarm Walk in Sedona, and so was the spirit of community.

Together, volunteers from ABF’s Board, Sedona Fire, and Sunset Mobile Home Park:

🏠 Installed 64 smoke alarms in 30 households
🔥 Educated 40 residents on fire safety

What stood out most wasn't just the numbers. It was the genuine appreciation residents expressed for their local fire district and the thoughtful conversations that helped ensure each household received exactly what they needed, including Deaf and Hard of Hearing alarms, Rescue Retriever pet alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors courtesy of Sedona Fire District.

Every smoke alarm installed represents a family that is better protected. Every fire safety conversation has the potential to save lives.

Thank you to everyone who made this day possible. ❤️

is officially underway!

ABF is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote: “Charge into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” a campaign focused on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

Plug in. Power up. Stay safe.

⭐ Supporter Spotlight: City of Kingman Fire Department

This summer, the Kingman Fire Department and Kingman Firefighters Association supported Glenn Jordan’s Keep Raising Your Bar Pull-Up Challenge through participation and a generous $1,500 donation to the Arizona Burn Foundation.

The story behind their support makes it even more meaningful. In 1988, Glenn interviewed 10-year-old Brian Knarr during a Thanksgiving morning radio broadcast in Kingman. Nearly four decades later, Glenn reconnected with Captain Knarr at a community event, sparking memories of that day and inspiring the Kingman Fire Department to join his challenge. 💛

“We’re grateful for Glenn’s story of inspiration and resilience and wanted to support his efforts to the best of our ability,” said Captain Knarr.

Thank you to the Kingman Fire Department and Kingman Firefighters Association for standing with burn survivors and helping raise awareness for burn prevention across Arizona.

Thank you, Kingman Fire Department #22! 🙏

❤️ Thank You, Oracle! ❤️

A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers and the Oracle residents who welcomed us into their homes during Saturday’s Community Smoke Alarm Walk.

Together, we:

🏠 Visited 18 homes
🚨 Installed 30 smoke alarms
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Educated 40 residents on fire safety

Every smoke alarm installed provides critical extra time to escape during a fire emergency, helping keep families safer and potentially saving lives.

We’re grateful to everyone who volunteered their time and to the residents who partnered with us to make our community safer. Thank you for making a difference!

🚨 October is Fire Prevention Month 🚨

Prevention starts long before an emergency happens.

This year, more than 19,000 children have participated in ABF’s Milo & Moxie children’s prevention education program, learning practical ways to stay safe at home and in their communities. Through our smoke alarm installation program, we're also approaching an incredible milestone: 40,000 smoke alarms installed at no cost to Arizona residents.

Recently, during a community smoke alarm walk, volunteers met a homeowner whose smoke alarm was nearly 30 years old. They had no idea it had long exceeded its useful life. Thanks to community support, they now have a new battery-sealed alarm that will help protect their home for years to come.

That's the power of prevention.

Throughout October, we'll be sharing fire safety tips, prevention resources, and opportunities to get involved. Take a moment today to test your smoke alarms and make sure every level of your home is protected.

📅 Coming up this month:

• Oct. 2: Milo & Moxie @ Phoenix Children’s Museum (FREE to attend!)
• Oct. 3: Oracle
• Oct. 9: Sedona
• Oct. 16: Florence
• Oct. 21: Milo & Moxie @ Valleywise Community Health Center
• Oct. 23: Village of Sichomovi
• Oct. 24: Glendale

A small gift with a big meaning. ❤️

Burn survivors Jason Nelson and Jessica Kidwell recently presented Matt Cunningham and Cunningham Law Firm with a signed Rim to River Grand Canyon hike framed poster as a token of appreciation for their support of this lifechanging experience.

Thank you for helping burn survivors challenge themselves, build connections, and discover just how strong they are as they reach new heights.

Representing Arizona with Courage & Heart ❤️

Each year, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) hosts the International Burn Camp, bringing together young burn survivors and firefighter mentors from across the United States and Canada for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

This year, we're incredibly proud to send Angel, Camp Courage Camper of the Year, and Matt, Camp Courage Firefighter of the Year (shout out to Sedona Fire!) to Edgewater, Maryland, for the weeklong program. Their adventure will include tours of monuments, memorials, and museums in Washington, D.C., Arlington, Virginia, and Annapolis, Maryland, along with opportunities to meet national leaders and connect with fellow camp participants from across North America.

Angel and Matt were selected by their Camp Courage peers in recognition of their leadership, resilience, and contagious positivity. Matt has volunteered with Camp Courage for 20 years, and this is Angel's 7th year at camp.

We could not be prouder to have these two represent Arizona's burn community. Join us in wishing them an incredible week of learning, connection, and unforgettable memories. We'll check back in with them later this week!
