Shaw Butte Elementary Shaw Butte affords students a rich curriculum aligned to Arizona College and Career Ready Standards.

Shaw Butte Elementary School, in the Washington Elementary School District, serves nearly 700 prekindergarten through sixth grade children in the neighborhood bordered by Sweetwater Avenue to the north and Peoria Avenue to the South, from I-17 to 15th Avenue. Shaw Butte uses Make Your day as our schoolwide discipline plan, which is based on a philosophy that promotes development of an internal focus of control in students. The basic tenets of this philosophy are built on human dignity and responsibility. Students understand that their actions result in fair, logical and predictable consequences that are enforced in a manner that preserves their dignity. Shaw Butte features:

• Free, full-day kindergarten
• Open enrollment
• Art, music, physical education for K-6th graders
• Instrumental music beginning in 4th grade
• After-school Academy
• Olweus Bullying Prevention Program
• Head Start
• Special needs preschool program
• KidSpace, before- and after-school child care program
• Free breakfast and lunch

Dear Shaw Butte Families,
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Shaw Butte Elementary.
Shaw Butte is more than a school to me. I grew up in this community, attended Washington Elementary School District schools, and have proudly dedicated the past 20 years of my career to serving students and families in WESD. This community helped shape who I am, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve the next generation of learners here at Shaw Butte.
One of my greatest priorities is building strong relationships with our students, families, and staff. I believe children thrive when they know they are valued, supported, and surrounded by adults who genuinely care about their success. I am committed to partnering with families because I know that when we work together, our students can achieve incredible things.
I believe every child has unique abilities and strengths. My goal is to create a school where each student feels known, challenged, celebrated, and inspired to discover their full potential. Every child deserves opportunities to grow with confidence, curiosity, and joy.
I look forward to learning alongside our students, celebrating their accomplishments, partnering with families, and creating a school where every child feels a true sense of belonging. Together, we will continue to build a community rooted in purpose and growing with possibility! I am so excited and grateful to share in the joy of learning and growing with each of you.
