Pickens County EMS is proud to announce that we have been officially recognized as Pediatric Ready (Peds Ready) by the South Carolina Department of Public Health (SC DPH)! 🎉

This recognition reflects our continued commitment to providing high-quality emergency medical care to the children of Pickens County.

👶 What does being Pediatric Ready mean?

✅ Specialized Training: Our EMTs and Paramedics receive additional pediatric education and training to better prepare them for emergencies involving children.

✅ Specialized Equipment: Our ambulances carry pediatric-specific medical equipment and supplies to help us provide safe, effective care for patients of all ages and sizes.

✅ Commitment to Excellence: We continually work to improve our training, equipment, and clinical practices to ensure our youngest patients receive the best possible care.

We know that when a child experiences a medical emergency, every second matters. Our goal is to make sure our crews have the knowledge, skills, and equipment needed to respond with confidence and compassion.

💙 Because even our smallest patients deserve the very best care!

We are incredibly proud of our dedicated EMTs and Paramedics who work hard every day to make Pickens County EMS a leader in prehospital emergency care!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Mr. Barry Kay, Pickens County’s first EMS Director, who passed away yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Kay played an important role in the beginning of Emergency Medical Services in Pickens County. His leadership and service helped lay the foundation for the EMS system we have today and for the generations of providers who have followed.

We are grateful for his dedication to Pickens County and the legacy he leaves behind.

Please keep his wife, Julie, their family, friends, and all who knew and worked alongside him in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Today, Pickens County EMS joins our community in recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day a time to remember the lives lost to overdose, support the families and friends who carry that loss, and recognize the work being done every day to prevent another tragedy.

Our Community Paramedic works beyond the initial 911 response to help bridge the gap between an emergency and the resources available in our community. Each contact is another opportunity to provide education, offer support, distribute or discuss lifesaving resources such as naloxone, and most importantly to help someone take the next step toward recovery.

Through our Community Paramedic Program, we are working to follow up with individuals who have experienced an overdose and help connect them with resources, treatment options, recovery support, and other services that may help them move forward.

We are encouraged to see overdose numbers moving in the right direction, but the work isn't finished.

Tonight at 7:00 PM, Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County and Foothills Fentanyl Fight will hold an International Overdose Awareness Day Vigil on the steps of the Pickens County Courthouse.

🕯️ Remember those we have lost
💜 Support families affected by overdose
🤝 Stand together as a community
🌱 Share hope for treatment and recovery
🕊️ Honor the lives behind the statistics

Pickens County EMS is proud to work alongside our community partners and to have our Community Paramedic helping connect people with resources when they may need them most.
